How to Naturally Remove Scars without Costing You an Arm and a Leg

With the right combination of natural treatments and techniques, you can remove scars in many cases. No matter how old your scar is or how you got it, you can improve the appearance without expensive and costly procedures.

Nobody likes to have any scars on them because they are a constant reminder of imperfection. Scars are troublesome to people who have them. This is especially so if they are on those areas that cannot be hidden such as your face, neck or arms, and the scars will be seen by just anyone.

Scars can greatly reduce self-confidence and even make some people to avoid you. For this reason, many people want to learn how to remove scars.

Scars happen when a wound starts healing and collagen beneath the skin develops. There are three different kinds of scars atrophic, hypertrophic, and keloidal.

Atrophic is the type of scar that leaves a little dent in the skin. Hypertrophic is the type of scar that sticks up from the skin. Keloidal scars are benign tumors left from a wound.

Scars can be caused by many things. Burns, cuts, acne and stretch marks can all lead to scarring that may go untreated for many years. Although scars sometimes fade with time, it may seem as if the process is moving far too slowly. Want to know how to remove scars?

Scar removal is an often debated topic on the net and elsewhere. You will find that there is no final answer on the right way to get rid of scars. You could pay thousands of dollars for invasive surgical procedures, or you can try a few home remedies that can soften the appearance of your scars. There are also designer scar creams and an array of other scar treatment options.

But how do you know which ones really work to remove scars? Scar creams and surgeries can be really expensive and don’t always deliver the best results. Most home remedies are nothing more than rumours and old wives tales and don’t really do anything to reduce scarring.

Before you make any decision on buying those expensive designer scar creams, you should do a thorough research on what you are actually buying. Most of these scar removal products are just a mixture of moisturizers, Vitamin E, and maybe some “antioxidants” or other unproven fillers.

Sad to say, most of these common expensive scar products and remedies are not scientifically backed up. In some cases they can cause irritation and worsen scars, without doing anything to actually get rid of scars.

Take for example, Vitamin E has not been proven effective for the treatment of scars.  In fact it has shown to worsen scarring in some studies.  Any positive affects you may see from these products are likely from the massaging of the area daily.

If you really want to know how to get rid of scars for good, here are some simple tips and cost-effective tips that can work for nearly any scar:

Keep your scar away from the sun’s ultraviolet rays – When your scar is at its healing stage, it is very sensitive to ultraviolet light. It can easily burn and become hyper-pigmented and discoloured due to unprotected prolonged exposure under the sun. This makes the scar very red and ultimately much more noticeable. Once this damage has been done, it will be very hard to get rid of.

For this reason, when you are out of the house especially during the period between 10 am and 3 pm when the sun’s rays are at their strongest, you should wear sunscreen which has a high SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30.

Exfoliation – This process involves removing the top layers of the scar to help flatten and smoothen the affected area.  This sloughs off rough, dead cells, cleanses your pores and makes dry skin look fresh. But be careful not to overdo this as you can irritate the skin and make your scar more noticeable.

There are many natural acids that can do this gently.  For instance, lemon juice is often touted as the natural bleach for scars.  While this is somewhat true, its main function is to exfoliate the skin which helps flatten it out.  This makes it a helpful natural product for getting rid of scars. Besides lemon juice, you can also use pineapple and baking soda.

Pineapple is good for topical application to your skin. It contains vitamin C which is an antioxidant that helps your skin build collagen, the substance that helps build new skin cells and provide a youthful appearance. Pineapple is an acidic fruit when pureed.

When placed upon the skin, pineapple provides vitamin C and a natural acidic exfoliation similar to that of a light chemical peel. Leave the puree on the scar for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse with cool water. This helps provide a smoother surface to the skin and aids in reducing the visibility of scars.

Like pineapple, baking soda is another all-natural exfoliate. The rough texture of the baking soda aids in scraping away at the skin’s surface. To use it, mix one part baking soda with two parts water, then uses your fingers to massage the mixture into the skin for one minute and then rinse the treated area.

There are many simple and natural products and techniques just like these that can dramatically reduce the visibility of many scars. With the right combination of natural treatments and scar removal methods, you can reduce or eliminate scarring in many cases.  No matter how old your scar is or how you got it, you can improve the appearance without expensive and costly procedures.
