Yogurt is a great ingredient used in a number of the homemade beauty recipes because of its numerous beauty benefits which include soothing, softening and hydrating the skin, leaving it soft and smooth.

Yogurt has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Yogurt is effective at cleansing and disinfecting pores, preventing acne, moisturizing skin and revitalizing its texture.

Yogurt contains lactic acid, a naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acid found in fermented milk products. Alpha hydroxy acid gently sloughs off dead surface skin cells while protecting the deeper layers of skin. The exfoliating properties of lactic acid make yogurt a great skin renewal facial mask.

Whether you suffer from acne, dry skin, skin dullness or excessive oiliness, a plain yogurt mask is a budget-friendly way to treat your face.

The best thing about yogurt is that it is so versatile and can be used alone or with any other ingredients for your skin care.

Following are some simple 2-ingredient yogurt face mask recipes you can use to help you to get the clear glowing skin you desire.

Basic Yogurt Face Mask

First you wash your face thoroughly with warm water and a mild cleanser. Pat dry, and apply 1 cup of plain yogurt with your fingers, covering all areas of your face and upper neck. Leave the face mask on for 15 to 20 minutes, and then gently wash it away with lukewarm water follow by cold water to close up the skin pores. You can repeat this process daily or weekly.

Honey Yogurt Face Mask

To prepare this mask, you will need 2 tablespoons each of plain yogurt and raw organic honey (or manuka honey).

First you wash your face. Be sure your face is clean and that all of your makeup is removed. The next thing to do is to combine the yogurt and honey in a bowl. Mix until blended well.

Now you can spread the mixture onto your face and neck, while avoiding the area near to your eyes. Make sure to spread it evenly. Let it sit for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Wash the mixture off with lukewarm water and then with cold water to close up the skin pores so that your skin won’t get dried. You dry your face and finish with moisturizer.

Lemon/Orange Yogurt Face Mask

To create this mask, you will need 2 tablespoons of fresh plain yogurt and the juice of half a lemon or orange.

You combine both the ingredients together and apply on your face and rinse off after fifteen minutes. Moisturize your skin and don’t forget to apply your sunscreen cream/lotion because the juice of orange and lemon contains AHAs(Alpha Hydroxy Acids) which can make your skin photosensitive.

This mask is good for oily or dull skin because citrus fruits such as lemon and orange can help to get rid of dead skin cells, clear pores and is known to lighten or whiten your skin over time.

Carrot Yogurt Face Mask

If you are constantly fighting a dry, flaky face, add 2 tablespoons of grated carrots to 2 tablespoons of fresh plain yogurt. Mix thoroughly by hand or in a blender before applying to your face, neck and anywhere else you like but not to area near to your eyes. Leave on for about 15 minutes and rinse off thoroughly first with lukewarm water and follow by cold water to close up the skin pores.

Almond Yogurt Face Mask

To prepare this mask, you will need 3 tablespoons of fresh plain yogurt and 2 tablespoons of ground almond (soak overnight). You mix both of them together. You can apply this mixture on your face and rinse off after 20 minutes.

This anti-aging mask is suitable for all skin types. It will keep your skin soft, smooth and radiant. Almond is rich in Vitamin E, which is an antioxidant and yogurt is a natural cleanser.

Cucumber Yogurt Face Mask

Get a cucumber, use half of it, peel the skin, cut into small pieces and put in a blender and blend into a watery puree. Then you add in 2-3 tablespoons of fresh plain yogurt to the cucumber puree in the blender and again blend well to create a paste which you can apply to your face and neck evenly.

Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water and then cool water to close up the skin pores. Follow up with toner and moisturizer on your face. This mask is good for sensitive skin.
