Cleansing is the cornerstone of an effective skin care regimen. It is important for the long-term health of your skin – reducing bacteria, keeping pore ducts open and exfoliating surface skin cells.

If waste is allowed to accumulate, it can block the pores thus blocking the secretion of the glands from coming to the top of the skin. These secretions provide the skin with the weapons it needs to fight against infections, toxic agents, etc.

Therefore, proper cleansing with products specific for your skin type will improve your overall appearance. Daily cleansing is important to remove dirt and bacteria, sweat, air pollution, excess oils and in addition cleansing exfoliates the skin surface to promote circulation. Proper cleansing starts with clean hands.

You can clean your skin using facial cleansing oil – the oil cleansing method, often abbreviated to OCM.  Oil cleansing method is a way for cleaning a human face using oil(s) such as castor oil, sunflower oil and extra virgin olive oil.

Sometimes, these oils can be mixed; one example is 50% extra virgin olive oil and 50% castor oil to create a facial cleansing oil mixture that you can use to moisturize and massage into your skin. This mixture can be optimized based on skin type and personal preference.

Oily skin can make use of a larger proportion of castor oil. Castor oil is very cleansing and both sunflower oil and olive oil gives your skin omega fats which help the health of the cell membranes.

Facial cleansing oil which uses extra virgin olive oil provides anti-fungal and anti-bacterial benefits. One of the ingredients found in olive oil is polypheol, which gives skin the power to fight off skin infections from both fungus and bacteria.

These oils will improve the over-all health and clarity of your skin, which helps in getting rid of acne and treating dry skin. Other oils that are commonly used are mineral oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, and grapeseed oil.

Oil Cleansing Method Step By Step Instruction

Night time is the ideal time to do facial cleansing. Before you go to bed, pour a few drops of the oil mixture onto your hand and massage it onto your face in gentle, firm strokes for about 5 minutes.

Focus on areas with skin problems and makeup. This will work the cleanser deeply into your pores so that makeup, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria are dissolved in the oil, ready to be washed away.

After rubbing the oil all over your face for 5 minutes, take a soft washcloth, wet it in hot water, wring it well, and then press it against your face. Slowly wipe your face with the cloth. Repeat this step thrice. No need to scrub – just gently wipe. Dirt and bacteria will be steamed and wiped away without irritating sensitive skin.

Keep in mind that the washcloth must be hot enough, but not scalding – hot enough to open your pores and release the facial cleansing oil, which is carrying the dirt. (Cool water won’t open your pores or remove the cleanser.)

Carry out this routine, twice a week, and you will find your skin beginning to look soft and clean, with no signs of blemishes.
