Many people suffer from dry skin. During the winter, the dry, cold air saps whatever moisture was in the skin, out, cracking the skin and making it itchy and red.

During the summer, the sun gives the skin a healthy tan while at the same time removing moisture. Basic cleanliness and cleaning around the home can leave hands dry and cracked.

While most people don’t need to see a doctor for their dry skin, the itchiness, tightness, and discomfort it causes can drive one to distraction.

The Mayo Clinic recommends that those who can’t get their dry skin to clear up with normal remedies or “have large areas of scaling or peeling skin” should seek help from a doctor. For everyone else, one of these 10 home remedies may be the answer you’re looking for.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#1- Avoid long, hot showers

Although the heat feels so good, WebMD points out that the hot water removes your body’s natural oils. Rather than enjoying a steaming, hot shower, try a warm shower for no more than 10 minutes.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#2 – Avoid harsh soaps

Fragrant-free, antibacterial-free, alcohol-free soaps are the best. WebMD also recommends using cleansers that have ceramides as they help hold in the body’s moisture.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#3 – Moisturize while damp

Dr. Dee Anna Glaser says in Prevention that putting on the moisturizer while you’re still damp helps lock in moisture.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#4 – Apply milk

According to Dr. Susan C. Taylor from Prevention, applying a cloth or piece of gauze soaked in cold milk to extremely dry patches of skin for five minutes can help remove itch and inflammation.

If the problem is more widespread than just a patch, Dr. Dane in Reader’s Digest recommends taking a milk bath. Add one to three gallons of milk to lukewarm water and soak for 15 minutes. Be sure to rinse off well when finished.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#5 – Humidify

WebMD recommends keeping indoor humidity at 50 percent. If you live in a drier climate, using a humidifier to put moisture back into the air is a good idea.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#6 – Moisturize

Use a good moisturizer after bathing and throughout the day. Prevention recommends petroleum jelly, mineral oil, creams, and lotions containing shea butter, stearic acid, or glycerin.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#7 – Smart shaving

WebMD recommends always shaving with a shaving cream or gel and in the direction the hair grows. Avoid using a dull razor as you have to push harder, scraping off your body’s natural oils.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#8 – Sweeten your skin

Women’s Health Magazine says that raw honey will draw in moisture from the air. It recommends applying one teaspoon of raw honey on the dry area and letting it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#9 – Moisturize with the “overnight cure.”

If you’re feeling really dry, Dr. Glaser of Prevention recommends taking a warm bath before bed and covering yourself in Crisco. Put on your pajamas and sleep, allowing the oil to soak into your skin.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin Tip#10 – Seal in the moisture

For areas that are really chapped, like elbows and heels, Dr. Glaser also recommends putting petroleum jelly or Crisco on just those spots and sealing it in with socks or a long-sleeved shirt.

Too many just accept having dry skin and have given up trying to battle it. With so many easy things to try at home, well-moisturized skin doesn’t have to stay outside your grasp.

The tonsils are small, glandular structures that are located at the back of your mouth and nose. These structures are part of the immune system, trapping any bacteria, viruses, or debris that you might breathe in.

Tonsils may vary in size based on your individual characteristics. Usually, every person has three sets of tonsils on each side of the throat.

Palatine Tonsils and Their Functions

The palatine tonsils are located at the rear of the throat. These structures are made up of tissue covered with pink mucosa, containing small pits called crypts.

Swelling and turning red in response to infection, the tonsils are involved in the lymphatic system. They help the body combat any foreign material entering the mouth that could be damaging.

This function is accomplished through proteins called antibodies, which are produced by immune cells inside the tonsils. Antibodies are responsible for killing germs and preventing infections in the mouth, throat, and lungs.

Pharyngeal Tonsils and Their Functions

Another major pair of tonsils is called the pharyngeal tonsils, which are commonly known as the adenoids. The adenoids are masses of lymphatic tissue that are located on the top portion of the nasal cavity, behind the nose the soft palate.

If the adenoids become inflamed as the result of infection, they can swell and obstruct breathing through the nose. This blockage can interfere with sinus drainage and create infections in the sinus and middle ear. The adenoids tend to be largest during childhood, but decrease in size once you reach adulthood.

Lingual Tonsils and Their Functions

The final pair of tonsils is the lingual tonsils, which are located at the base of the tongue. Similar to the palatine tonsils, the lingual tonsils are groupings of lymphatic tissue with crypts that lead to lower lymphatic tissue.

However, the crypts in the lingual tonsils are drained effective by small mucous glands, making the presence of any infection very rare.

Infection is most common in the palatine tonsils and the adenoids.

Usually, infection in these structures is the results of glandular enlargement and poor drainage.

The two most frequent problems in the palatine tonsils and the adenoids are recurrent infections in the nose and throat, which leads to difficulty breathing, swallowing, and sleeping. If you are experiencing these symptoms, see your doctor for an examination.

Health Warnings – What is Actually in a Hot Dog?

Health Warnings - What is Actually in a Hot Dog? There is no doubt that Americans love a good hot dog. But what you can find in a hot dog can make you throw up. Read this 1st before you are going to eat a hot dog.
Click HERE If You Are Interested in Getting Healthy or Living a More Natural Life

The average American eats … wait for it … 70 hot dogs a year. This is according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC), which also noted that 95 percent of U.S. households serve hot dogs.

There’s no doubt that Americans love a good hot dog. Heck, they’re as American as apple pie and white picket fences. Every region even has its own special version.

In New York (where more hot dogs are consumed than anywhere else in the U.S.), hot dogs are served with steamed onions and dry yellow mustard.

Chicago dogs are more complicated, served with “yellow mustard, dark green relish, chopped raw onion, pickle spear, sport peppers, tomato slices and topped with a dash of celery salt and served in a poppy seed bun,” according to NHDSC.

In the South, meanwhile, you’ll find hot dogs topped with coleslaw while other regions prefer dogs topped with chili or sauerkraut.

But, be honest. Although you might think carefully about what to put on top of your dog, you probably don’t give much thought to what’s in it because, well, you’re afraid of what you might find out. (If you really don’t want to know, now’s the time to cover your eyes).

“Meat Batter” on a Bun

Hot dogs fall into the category of “emulsion-type sausages,” which are generally made from finely chopped meat, fatty tissue and water or ice.

However, according to The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in the case of hot dogs “the term meat “batter” instead of meat “emulsion” might be better.”

Hot dogs are made from meat trimmings (typically beef or pork but also poultry). These are the parts left over after the more desirable cuts, like steaks and roasts, are removed.

In high-quality dogs, the bulk of the hot dog will be made from meat – look for terms like all-beef, grass-fed and organic on the label.

But what about those cheaper lower-quality dogs? A small amount of pork, mechanically separated poultry, corn syrup solids, preservatives, soy and milk solids – all are fair game.

As the Daily Mail put it, here’s what you might see if you visited a hot-dog factory:

“In vast metal vats, tons of pork trimmings are mixed with the pink slurry formed when chicken carcasses are squeezed through metal grates and blasted with water.

The mush is mixed with powdered preservatives, flavorings, red coloring and drenched in water before being squeezed into plastic tubes to be cooked and packaged. It is a disgusting process, for the hot dog is arguably the ultimate in processed, industrial food.”

Many hot dogs contain less than 50 percent ‘regular’ meat and the rest:

  • Mechanically separated meat
  • Water (no more than 10 percent)
  • Fillers like corn starch, maltodextrin, cereal grains and corn syrup (up to 3.5 percent)
  • Salt
  • Preservatives
  • Flavorings (which don’t have to be disclosed)
  • Casings (natural casings are animal intestines)

You might be able to get past meat trimmings, mechanically separated meat and preservatives, but can you get past this …

Watch this Video HERE about how a hot dog is being made.

2 Percent of Hot Dogs May Contain Human DNA … and Your Veggie Dog May Contain Meat

Clear Food genetically tested 345 hot dog samples from 75 brands. Their tests revealed problems such as label inaccuracies or hygiene issues, in more than 14 percent of the dogs.

Perhaps worst of all, 2 percent of the hot dogs contained traces of human DNA. Vegetarian hot dogs accounted for two-thirds of the “human DNA dogs,” and 10 percent of the veggie dogs also contained meat.

Other products contained types of meat that were not listed on the label, such as pork in a supposedly pork-free hot dog, or did not contain all the ingredients listed on the label.

If you’re still looking to chow down on hot dogs, there’s more bad news. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) recently classified processed meat as a carcinogen.

Hot dogs are the poster-child for processed meats. IARC reviewed more than 800 studies to make the cancer determination and revealed that eating 50 grams of processed meat daily (that’s the equivalent of one hot dog) increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 18 percent.

If you only eat hot dogs occasionally, you probably don’t need to worry. But if hot dogs are one of your go-to staples, cutting back may be a good idea. And while you’re at it, do your digestive tract a favor and take 30 days to detox and flush out some of those toxins you’ve accumulated.

Revealing Here the 10 Biggest Banana Benefits

Revealing Here the 10 Biggest Banana Benefits - Read on here to discover the 10 biggest banana benefits for your health.

The average American eats 27 pounds of bananas every year; that’s more than the amount of apples and oranges combined!

Fortunately, this is one popular habit that’s a healthy one too, as bananas are one of the most beneficial fruits you can eat.

Banana Benefits: 10 Reasons to Eat a Banana Today

  1. Improved Nutrient Absorption

Bananas contain short-chain fatty acids that nourish the lining of your intestines, potentially helping to improve your body’s ability to absorb nutrients.

  1. Lower Risk of Kidney Cancer

Women who eat bananas four to six times a week cut their risk of kidney cancer in half compared to those who eat none. This may be due to phenolics, a special type of antioxidant that bananas contain.

  1. Digestive Function

With 12% of the daily-recommended amount of dietary fiber, even one banana a day can help to keep your digestive function running smoothly. If you have an upset stomach or diarrhoea, bananas are considered to be a non-irritating food that’s safe to eat.

  1. Heart Health

The American Heart Association labels bananas as a heart-healthy food, in part because one banana contains an average of 467 mg of potassium (that’s 12% of the recommended daily value).

Potassium supports heart health and function and is linked to a lower risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

  1. Ulcer Protection

Bananas have an antacid effect, helping to active cells in your stomach’s lining that produce a thicker protective mucus against acids. They also contain protease inhibitors, which help fight ulcer-causing bacteria in your stomach.

  1. Enhanced Mood and Stress Relief

Rich in B vitamins, such as vitamin B6, bananas may help to calm your nervous system. They also contain tryptophan, an amino acid that helps your body produce mood-enhancing serotonin, as well as mood-boosting magnesium.

  1. Natural Prebiotics

Bananas contain fructooligosaccharide (FOS), a prebiotic that “feeds” the beneficial bacteria (probiotics) in your gut, allowing them to flourish.

  1. Immune System Health

Bananas are an excellent source of the antioxidant vitamin C (one banana contains about 15% of the daily recommended amount), which is important for healing.

Vitamin B6 is also an important nutrient for immune system health and antibody production, and this is also plentiful in bananas.

  1. Blood Sugar Support

For a pleasantly sweet fruit, bananas actually help your body regulate blood sugar levels, thanks to the antioxidant manganese they contain.

Vitamin B6 and vitamin C in bananas also helps your body to regulate blood sugar levels.

  1. Enhanced Energy

Eating a banana before a workout has been found to provide your body with the fuel it needs to maintain good performance throughout the exercise.

One study found it was as effective as a carbohydrate-based drink when eaten prior to an endurance workout.

Are You Reaping the Maximum Benefits from the Foods You Eat?

Did you know that eating the perfect diet is not a guarantee that your body is getting all of the antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that it requires?

This depends on your ability to absorb these beneficial compounds from your food.

If you have years’ worth of toxic build-up in your intestines (and virtually everyone does), your digestion will be subpar, your risk of chronic diseases increases and you simply won’t feel as good as you should.

Plus, you may not be absorbing all of the essential nutrition from the foods that you eat … so all the bananas in the world may not give you the wonderful benefits described above, unless … you flush the toxins right out of your colon using Natural Cleanse.

Natural Cleanse contains herbal remedies like buckthorn bark, ginger root, and milk thistle extract combined with psyllium husk and a patented probiotic blend that helps rebalance your vital gut microflora and is clinically proven to improve digestive function.

Top 9 Symptoms of Fibromyalgia You Need to Watch Out!

Top 9 Symptoms of Fibromyalgia You Need to Watch Out! If you’re not sure whether your pain is fibromyalgia-related, consider whether you experience any of these top 9 symptoms of fibromyalgia listed here.

It’s estimated that 5 million Americans, mostly women, suffer from fibromyalgia. Most are not diagnosed until middle age, although symptoms often begin earlier, and many are not correctly diagnosed at all.

Often considered an arthritis-related condition, fibromyalgia is not actually a form of arthritis. However, it is considered a rheumatic condition that causes impairment to your joints and soft tissues, along with chronic pain and fatigue.

Part of what makes fibromyalgia so challenging to diagnosis is that its main symptoms – pain and fatigue – resemble those caused by many other conditions. It’s not unusual for sufferers to visit multiple doctors multiple times before fibromyalgia is mentioned.

Further, there are no diagnostic tests for this condition, and many physicians write it off as “all in your head.” If you’ve struggled with fibromyalgia, however, you know the pain is all too real and can be quite debilitating.

If you’re not sure whether your pain is fibromyalgia-related, consider whether you experience any of these top 9 symptoms of fibromyalgia.

The Top 9 Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

  1. Muscle Aches:You may feel a deep aching or burning sensation, or experience the feeling of a pulled muscle that don’t go away.

  1. Headaches:Chronic headaches or migraines occur in about half of fibromyalgia sufferers, possibly due to a chemical imbalance in your brain.

  1. Tender Points:Pain tends to occur in 18 specific “tender points” in people with fibromyalgia. This includes the back of your head, between your shoulders, front of your neck, top of your chest, elbows, tops of your hips and inside of your knees.

You may have pain in a few or many of these spots (most fibro sufferers have multiple tender points that can be identified by applying pressure to the area).

  1. Symmetrical Pain:The pain of fibromyalgia occurs in different areas of the body, on both sides and in the upper and lower areas (although this symmetrical pain won’t necessarily occur at the same time or constantly).

  1. Fatigue:Chronic daily fatigue is common and debilitating in those with fibromyalgia. This is partly due to difficulty sleeping, which may be caused by restless leg syndrome or sleep apnea, which often occur along with fibromyalgia.

  1. Sleep Disturbances:Insomniadifficulty falling asleep, and frequent night time waking are common symptoms of fibromyalgia.

  1. Brain Fog:“Fibro fog” may make it difficult for fibromyalgia patients to think clearly. The brain fog may be worsened by lack of sleep and physical pain.

  1. Lasting Pain:The pain of fibromyalgia tends to be chronic, lasting for three months or more, and is not able to be explained by another illness or injury.

  1. Other Chronic Disease (Especially Rheumatic or Pain Conditions):Fibromyalgia is more likely to occur if you have another rheumatic disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, and it may also occur alongside other pain conditions, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, endometriosis, inflammatory bowel disease, interstitial cystitis, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and vulvodynia.

Watch this Video HERE from Dr. Paul S. Auerbach of Stanford University about causes, symptoms of fibromyalgia and treatments

How is Fibromyalgia Diagnosed and Treated?

Not all physicians will recognize the symptoms of fibromyalgia. However, if yours is familiar with it he or she should be able to make an accurate diagnosis. This is done based on criteria established by the American College of Rheumatology and includes:

“ … a history of widespread pain lasting more than 3 months, and other general physical symptoms including fatigue, waking unrefreshed, and cognitive (memory or thought) problems. In making the diagnosis, doctors consider the number of areas throughout the body in which the patient has had pain in the past week.”

Unfortunately, the first-line treatment for fibromyalgia is often pain relievers and/or anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which are intended not as a cure but as a form of symptom relief. Antidepressants and anti-seizure medications, for pain relief, may also be recommended, although the benefits of such treatments are questionable.

In one analysis of 10 high-quality studies comprising more than 6,000 adults who received either duloxetine (Cymbalta, an antidepressant), milnacipran (Savella, for fibromyalgia pain), or a placebo to treat fibromyalgia for up to six months, the majority of those taking medications did not experience substantial improvement.

Only 22 percent of those on the drug regiment improved significantly while 21 percent quit taking the medications because the side effects were too severe.

The most common medication side effects that lead patients to stop taking the drugs were nausea, dry mouth, constipation, headache, somnolence/dizziness and insomnia, and, rarely, both drugs were associated with suicidality, liver damage, abnormal bleeding, elevated blood pressure and urinary hesitation.

The researchers concluded that drug treatment alone for fibromyalgia “should be discouraged,” and instead suggested a more holistic approach that included exercise to improve mobility and psychological counseling to improve coping skills. Study co-author Brian Walitt, M.D., M.P.H. added:

“The medical field does poorly with the treatment of fibromyalgia in general … Chasing [a cure] with medicine doesn’t seem to work. The people who seem to me to do best sort of figure it out on their own by thinking about things, getting to know themselves, and making changes in their lives to accommodate who they’ve become.”

According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases:

“Many people with fibromyalgia also report varying degrees of success with complementary and alternative therapies, including massage, movement therapies (such as Pilates and the Feldenkrais method), chiropractic treatments, acupuncture, and various herbs and dietary supplements for different fibromyalgia symptoms.”

Proteolytic Enzymes May Help Remedy a Build-up of Fibrin in Fibromyalgia

The word fibromyalgia comes from the Latin term “fibro,” for fibrous tissue, and the Greek words “myo” (muscle) and “algia” (pain),  and this gives a great clue to one of the most preferred, safe and natural treatments for this condition.

According to Dr. William Wong, ND, PhD.:

“ … in FMS [fibromyalgia syndrome] we have a build-up of fibrin (the fibro of Fibromyalgia) through and across striated muscle around the body. There is also the growth of fibrin in the micro-circulation essentially plugging these tiny blood vessels in the affected areas.

The combo of decreased blood supply, with the strangulating effect of the fibrin on muscle tissue … creates the environment of ischemia [(the lack of oxygen or Adenosine Tri Phosphate for the cells to breathe, leading to pain)].

What can be done to decrease the fibrosis? Until recently, nothing! There has been really nothing in either the allopathic or naturopathic armamentum that was capable of lysing away scar tissue or fibrosis … [but] with the advent of oral systemic enzyme research and application all branches of the healing arts now have a powerful and effective tool for the safe lysing away of fibrosis.”

In short, the pain and suffering of fibromyalgia have been linked to an excess of fibrin in your muscle tissues. Known as fibrosis, this condition can spread to affect every muscle and organ in your body.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take long to reverse fibrin overgrowth. The key is re-activating your body’s natural fibrin clean-up crew, which is made of proteolytic enzymes, a group of systemic enzymes responsible for breaking down protein molecules.
