On the other hand, organic yogurt is also very effective for the skin and face. These are available in the market at the health food store. If you want to prevent from the pesticides and residual hormones which are present in the non–organic dairy products, then use the organic yogurt for creating your own face mask. The organic yogurt contains live cultures and more active ingredients which improves the bioavailability of the yogurt’s nutrient.

 

If you are suffering from some problems like excessive oiliness on your face, dry skin, acne and skin dullness, then a plain yogurt face mask is the best option to care for your face, using just 2 tablespoons of yogurt. The yogurt face mask is very effective and valuable at cleansing, disinfecting pores, moisturizing skin and preventing acne and stimulating its texture.

 

Here are a few twists that you can add to the original yogurt mask:

 

1) 1-2 drops of lemon juice and mix it with yogurt before applying, do not use too much because too much citric acid may irritate your face. Citric acid has lightening properties, making your face brighter. This is good if your skin is particularly dull. Lemon is very helpful to get rid of the dead skin and clarifies the pores of skin.

 

2) 1-2 teaspoon of honey and mix it with yogurt before, honey will calm any inflammation in skin. Even better is to combine both lemon juice and honey! Honey alone can also be used alone as a mask to reduce redness.

 

3) 1 teaspoon of Cane or Brown sugar, if you add cane sugar with yogurt, it sort of became a natural exfoliant.

 

4) 1 teaspoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of grated carrots and mix them with yogurt before applying to your face. This will help if you are suffering from dryness and flaky face.

 

5) Natural ingredients such as aloe vera gel, oatmeal (1 tablespoon), banana (over-ripe and mashed) or 2 tablespoons of grated and pureed cucumber to get effective results for your skin.

 

Remember always do a test patch on your skin before applying it all over the face to see if your skin has allergic reaction. If you find that the yogurt face mask is allergic for you then avoid using yogurt and also if you are feeling that it produces some kind of burning or pain then wash off the mask and contact your doctor.

 

If you feel that your skin feels tight after the use of face mask then applies the non-comedogenic moisturizer to hydrate and defend skin cells.

After rinsing off the mask, remember to use moisturizer immediately, yogurt mask may leave your face feeling a bit tight afterwards.

 

Yogurt face mask is best use on the night before a special event as a quick pick me up. This is also a great mask to use while traveling because your skin won’t look tired and you have lesser things to carry in your luggage. Plus, you can get it at the local food store at your destination.

 

Lavender Sea Salt Body Scrub

 

Lavender essential oil is one of the favourite scents in the beauty universe, and sea salt is naturally exfoliating. As for Dead Sea Salt, it is filled with minerals that soften the skin and speed up the healing of various skin conditions.

 

Often used for treatment of psoriasis, eczema and arthritis, these salts leave the skin smooth and glowing. You can combine the two with any unscented body oil (such as almond, avocado) to make your own aromatherapy. If your skin is dry, flaky and cracked, add olive oil to it.

 

To make your own lavender sea salt scrub, you will need ingredients which include ¾ cup fine Dead Sea salt, ¾ cup coarse sea salt, ¼ cup olive oil, 5-6 drops of lavender essential oil, 2 tablespoons lavender flowers, grounded.

 

First, lightly grind the lavender buds in a mortar and pestle, just enough to release the fragrance and oils, but not too much to damage the buds. You can skip the fine Dead Sea salt and go just with the coarse sea salt, but the mixture of the two is really great.

 

Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl (the lavender essential oil to be added at the last step) and mix until completely blended. Add more salt if the scrub is too oily; add more oil if it is too dry. Do not use the salt scrub if you have body wounds and after shaving your legs, because this can sting and irritate small cuts.

 

You will have plenty of opportunity to experiment with Dead Sea Salt body scrub (like with all scrubs, really) by simply adding a few more ingredients:

 

– A few drops of Vitamin E. You can get it in liquid form or as gel caps in which case you need to break it and squeeze the gel out.

 

– Aloe Vera can be a great addition to this recipe. Simply add a squirt or to, making sure the scrub does not become to liquid.

 

– Looking for an extra cleansing experience? Add some ground oatmeal to it or even some brown sugar. How about some ground coffee? It is excellent for cellulite and bumpy skin in general?

 

– If your skin is in need of additional cleanse, add a teaspoon of baking soda.

 

Whatever you add to it, you are looking for a pasty consistency: liquid enough so it is easily spread on the skin but thick enough that it stays there and maintains the grainy texture of the salt. Combine all ingredients in a glass jar or container and shake well. Apply on wet skin in circular motion and rinse off.

 

Clay (Mud) Facial Mask

 

Facial Clay Masks are especially good for oily skins, however depending on which color clay you use all skin types can benefit. I prefer using the French clays as these are high in mineral content.

 

The minerals in clay are great for the skin to cleanse, detoxify, exfoliate, and heal, sooth, and tone. There are different color clays available that are beneficial for different types of skins as each one has its unique healing properties.

 

Green clay helps to draw toxins from the skin and can calm inflammations. It is particularly good for acne.

 

White clay soothes and softens the skin and is suitable for all skin types. This is the gentlest of all the clays.

 

Red clay is suitable for dry and sensitive skins.

 

Pink clay is particularly useful for toning dull, tired, or devitalized skin. It also has excellent cleansing properties.

 

Bentonite clay, Kaolin clay, and Fuller’s Earth are also suitable for using in face masks. The latter is excellent for oily and acne prone skin conditions.

 

To make a clay mask, you will need 1 tablespoon of clay (of your choice depending on your skin condition), 1 tablespoon sour cream, 1 tablespoon raw honey.

 

Mix everything together. Apply on your face and be careful to avoid the eye area. Rinse off after 15-20 minutes. Lactic acid in sour cream lightens scars and blemishes. This mask has a detoxing effect. It draws out all the toxins and impurities and leaves your skin feeling soft, fresh and smooth.

Approximately 1/3 of the weight of dry green tea leaves is found to have antioxidants flavonoids which are called cathechins. It is a fact that antioxidants are responsible in slowing down the natural process of aging physically and also gives essential vitamins for overall skin health when taken orally.

 

Mix together 1 tablespoon red wine, 1 teaspoon green tea powder and 1 teaspoon dark cocoa powder to make a smooth paste. You can add manuka honey if your skin is dry. Apply this mask to your face avoiding the eye area and rinse off after 20 minutes. Your skin will look brighter and healthier.

 

You cannot turn back time, but by choosing natural skin care and herbal facial products you can reverse previous damage and get back that young and flawless skin without worry of harmful chemicals or allergic reactions – just like your ancestors did.

Clinical studies demonstrate that Manuka Honey produces faster results with fewer complications compared to the standard medical treatments for everything from infected wounds to eczema. Manuka Honey is found to have anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties and has been found to have no negative side effects when used for medical purposes.

One of my favourite natural treatments for acne and spots is honey. Honey applied in the early stages of an acne spot, will help the skin, by reducing the inflammation in the tissues. Honey is a very useful, natural remedy for acne and research has shown it to be very effective.

 

Just apply the honey on your face, gently massage in a circular motion for about a minute before you rinse it off. This works on all types of skin, especially for acne and aging skin.

 

You can also use Manuka honey in your facial masks and exfoliators to keep your skin clean, soft and glowing. So there is a natural skin treatment – try Manuka honey, you will be amazed with the results.

 

But you have to realize that some Manuka honey is better than others depending on its UMF factor. The higher the UMF level, the higher the level of anti-bacterial benefits.  UMF which stands for Unique Manuka Factor is a quality grading which meets some stringent laboratory testing in order to be labelled as “active”.

 

If you want to buy the real thing you should only buy Manuka honey that has UMF on its label with a rating of at least 15 UMF (or a MGO Rating of minimal 100). It is only then that the the honey may be marketed as UMF Manuka honey or Active Manuka Honey. Once you see this on the side of the bottle you’ll know that you have the right product for honey for acne.
