Lavender essential oil has many health benefits and is particularly good for skin care. In fact the name of the plant comes from the Latin lavare which means to wash.

Lavender was also commonly used by the Romans as an addition to bath water not only because of its scent but because it was believed to restore the skin. A few drops of the oil mixed with water provide an effective washing agent that has considerable benefits for skin as outlined below.

Lavender has many benefits for the skin because lavender essential oil has natural antifungal and antiseptic properties. It can be used to treat various skin conditions such as wrinkles, acne and psoriasis. Lavender oil has a soothing, anti-inflammatory action and can be used for various other skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, boils and carbuncles.

Lavender essential oil is also excellent for treating inflammations and heals cuts, wounds, sunburn and other burns since as it aids in the formation of scar tissue. Treating burns is best done with Lavender oil in the form of a cream or lotion: it helps the skin to heal faster because of its cicatrising properties.

Lavender essential oil can also be used to treat insect bites and is an effective insect repellent (particularly for mosquitoes). It is also widely used as massage oil since it is said to have a soothing, relaxing effect.

To get relief from tight and sore muscles, massage the painful parts with a lavender essential oil mix. To prepare the mix, add 10 ml of carrier oil like jojoba oil to 5 drops of lavender oil. This massage is also beneficial for sustained injuries.Lavender essential oil thus helps to tone the skin and is effective against a variety of skin problems.

You can stop a nosebleed by putting a drop of Lavender essential oil on a tissue and wrapping it around a small chip of ice.  Push the tissue covered ice chip up under the middle of the top lip to the base of the nose and hold as long as comfortable or until the bleeding stops (do not freeze the lip or gum).

You can put 1 to 2 drops of lavender essential oil on a tissue or handkerchief and inhale it whenever required for instant relief from respiratory disorders like bronchitis, throat infections, and asthma especially when asthma is associated with emotional trauma. Lavender oil mixed with lemon is used in vaporizers and humidifiers.

You can add one drop of lavender oil to water and give the person suffering from fever a sponge bath with this water to reduce fever. This remedy is safe for children and adults.

Lavender essential oil can triple as a bactericide, moisturizer and reliever of pain, itching and dryness caused by dry, cold winter conditions. Try a few drops as needed and rub into the chapped areas of the fingers and hands.

Lavender essential oil is also good for our hair. You can rub several drops of lavender oil into the scalp to help eliminate dandruff.

Alopecia areata is an auto-immune dysfunction where the hair falls out, often in clumps or patches. In one study documented by the University of Maryland Medical Center, 86 alopecia areata patients went through a split test. Both subjects massaged the scalp daily for 7 months, whereas only half used essential lavender oil during the massage. The experimental group that used Lavender oil reported significant hair re-growth over the control group that simply used scalp massage alone.

Organic lavender essential oil can also be used in diffusers that scent your room. They might use a candle, a light bulb, or electricity to heat the essential oils.

Light bulb rings are very easy to use. You simply place a metal or ceramic hollow ring on top of a bulb that is used in a lamp, place a few drops of oil in the ring, and then turn the light on. The heat from the bulb releases the fragrance.

Candle diffusers offer a basin for the oil, with a candle below to provide the heat. Electric diffusers are useful for scenting an entire room, and often come with small fans built in to spread the fragrance.

Lavender essential oil works much the same as tea tree oil when it comes to disinfectant properties and also lends its aromatic benefits of stress relief and relaxation, as well as anti-inflammatory benefits, relief of respiratory conditions, headaches and migraines, to name just a few.

You just rub 2 to 3 drops of lavender oil in your cupped palms, and then use the inhalation method to draw the scent all the way into your amygdala gland (the emotional warehouse) in your brain to calm the mind.

In fact, you can alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness by placing a drop of Lavender oil on end of tongue, behind the ears or around the navel.

To relief menstrual cramp, besides using very warm compresses, you can also apply lavender essential oil around the abdomen while inhaling the diffuse vapors to help calm and relax the muscles, mind and body for less severe cramping.

When you draw a bath, you can add 8 drops of lavender oil to the bath along with the bath salts. This bath is very helpful for relaxing aching muscles and will calm the body. You can also add 5 drops of lavender oil in a bowl and dip your hands or feet in this solution. This will relax tired feet and soothe sore hands.

You can add a few drops of lavender essential oil in a nice cup of hot tea which can help as a nice wind-down drink after dinner or with a decaffeinated tea before bed. It can also be used with a nice Chamomile tea or “Sleepy time” tea before bed or when trying to relax.

As you can see, Lavender essential oil can uplift your life (and mood), heal and entice in a variety of ways. It’s a great secret weapon to have on hand at all times!

One thing you have to take note is not all lavender oil is the same! Please be aware that when you buy lavender oil at spas, health food stores and even online, most are not therapeutic grade!  Young Living lavender oil is.  Does your lavender essential oil bottle say NOT for internal use???  If so, throw it away!  It is not pure lavender essential oil.  Pure lavender essential oil is edible!!

Acne can leave you embarrassed and completely fed up with the constant eruptions and following acne scars. Acne is typically caused by the interaction of bacteria, hormones and sebum (oil from the hair follicle).  The causes of acne include hormonal changes, reduction in collagen production, free-radical damage, poor nutrition, solar radiation and pollution.

A conscientious skin-care regime can combat some causes. Your skin has the ability to heal, renew and protect itself with the proper care. Although many pharmaceutical products are available to treat or eliminate acne problems, these treatments often have unpleasant side effects like irritation or skin drying.

You do not necessarily need to spend a lot of money and subject yourself to such problems in order to attain physical beauty. You might be surprised that you only need to open your refrigerator and pantry door just to find staple ingredients you can use to make homemade beauty products.

By using products such as these for acne scar removal, you will save yourself a lot of money and will improve the quality of your skin. They are safer in comparison and have no side-effects whatsoever.

The first most important thing you need to take note of to treat acne prone skin is hygiene. A healthy skin care regime should include no harsh scrubbing or over-washing, because this can cause possible skin irritation or over production of oil to replace what has washed off, clogging pores in the process.

Shampoo your hair daily, especially if it is oily. Comb or pull your hair back to keep the hair out of your face. Avoid tight headbands. Control your dandruff. Use a mild antidandruff shampoo. Avoid oily hair care products, such as oil-containing gels and pomades as they can drip onto the skin and clog the pores to give rise to acne.

The cause of acne can be due to unhealthy eating habits. Eating of spicy and fatty food in excess can lead to acne. Certain kind of food can aggravate the condition in some people. Drinking plenty of water is the easiest thing you can do to maintain your skin. Have diet rich in Vitamin A.  Avoid high glycemic index food (that can raise blood glucose levels). Also skip alcohol.

If you do spot acne-troubled areas, do NOT mess with them. Pricking or squeezing pimples and blemishes will only aggravate the risk of skin inflammation and acne scars  For best acne skin care effects, using a mild cleanser or toner once in the morning, noon and evening, and after doing a heavy work out, will help you achieve a clear skin.

Avoid hand contact with your face for better acne skin care results. For men, shaving should be done with care. Choose the best electric shavers and safety razors you can trust for years. Doctors advised men to shave lightly, and shave only when necessary for acne skin care maintenance. Changing your pillow covers regularly also helps prevent frequent breakouts.

The trick to blending acne and anti-aging skin regimens is to choose items that contain ingredients that have multiple benefits. What you have to remember when using these common household items is that they take longer to clear up your acne symptoms as compared to commercial treatments. When you are undergoing treatment and it takes time, it is easy to get frustrated. It is important for you to maintain a positive outlook and think that things are going to get better.

The following though not an exhaustive list, are the healthy choices you can use to get rid of acne.

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is renowned for its antibacterial activity and this makes it helpful in the treatment of skin problems. If you are prone to breakouts or suffer mild acne, apply this facial mask after cleansing skin. Simply massage 2 teaspoon of manuka honey onto your face and leave for 30 minutes. Remove with a warm, damp flannel. After a few weeks, you will notice your skin start to improve.

Aloe Vera Leaves

Aloe vera, has been proven to be effective for people with acne prone skin. Aloe vera is widely known as a skin healer providing skin soothing and anti-inflammatory properties which are good for treating acne aggravated and inflamed skin. Aloe vera not only kills germs, it also acts as a natural moisturizer and skin conditioner leaving the skin looking and feeling soft, smooth and healthy.

The gel inside of the aloe vera leaves has both anti-inflammatory as well anti-bacterial properties. This gel is also recognized for calming not only acne prone skin but burns and eczema. For best results, use fresh aloe vera gel from the plant or look for an organic clear aloe vera gel with aloe vera as the only ingredient.

Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is considered to have some of the best natural antiseptic / antifungal properties in the world.  Tea tree oil is made by steam distilling the leaves of the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), which is native to Australia.

Tea tree oil treats acne just as effectively as benzoyl peroxide and causes fewer side effects. Pure tea tree oil is 100% natural and is a great alternative to harsh chemicals on your skin. But some people may find tea tree oil to be irritating, so do a skin test before applying it directly to your face.

To treat acne prone skin, saturate a cotton swab with tea tree oil and apply the oil directly to the acne breakout. Do not rinse. Perform this process in the morning and evening. You can also make an astringent rinse by adding 4 drops of tea tree oil to a cup of water. Use the rinse no more than once a day.

You can also prepare a facial acne mask by adding 4 drops of tea tree oil to one egg white. Whisk well and apply the mask to your face. Leave it on for 15 minutes, and then rinse well with lukewarm water. Use the facial mask no more than once per week.

Lavender Essential Oil

The main benefits of using lavender oil to treat acne come from its ability to calm nerves and soothe damaged skin. To use lavender oil to treat acne prone skin, you have to dilute it first by mixing 1 to 4 drops of lavender oil into 1 teaspoon of a base oil like almond or olive oil before applying it to the skin.

Especially serious acne often benefits from a mixture of one part of lavender oil and 4 parts of tea tree oil. The best lavender oil treatment for body acne is to add a few drops of it to a tub of water and soak for at least 15 minutes.

Mustard

Mustard contains natural salicyclic acid which helps in clearing up acne. To treat acne prone skin, mix turmeric powder with a few drops of mustard oil and lemon juice. Apply this paste on your pimples, leave it on for 15 minutes and then scrub gently. Wash off with plain water. Do this 2-3 times a week to keep chronic acne spots at bay.

Garlic

Garlic contains medicinal properties that can help with the clearing of any complexion outbreaks. Crush the garlic, and then put it on the area of your face with the acne. Be sure to keep it away from the sensitive eye area. It may sting, but the garlic kills off the bacteria that cause acne in the first place. Let the garlic work on the infected area for several minutes. Wash off the garlic and gently pat your skin dry.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is used to detoxify the skin, and it functions like a laxative. It gently, but effectively pushes away dead skin cells and restores the natural pH balance to the skin, allowing the natural healing process to continue.

The vinegar can be taken orally, but is most effective when applied directly onto the scarred skin. Mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with 1 teaspoon of water and apply to the affected area with the help of a cotton ball. No need to rinse.

Cinnamon

To treat acne prone skin, mix 1 teaspoon of powdered cinnamon with 3 teaspoon of honey, apply to the affected area and leave it on overnight. Rinse off with warm water in the morning. In place of honey, you can either mix cinnamon powder with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or with equal portion of milk.

Blackstrap Molasses

Blackstrap molasses contains powerful antioxidants, which are believed to contribute to good skin health and lower the risk of lines, wrinkles and other skin conditions associated with premature aging.

To treat acne prone skin, take 1 teaspoon of unsulphured blackstrap molasses and apply it to the affected area. Rinse off after 10 minutes. You can also take 1 teaspoon of blackstrap molasses orally to treat acne.

Basil Leaves

Basil leaves has many medicinal properties. This is because it’s antibacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory by nature. For this acne solution people need to take two to three teaspoons of dried basil leaves and add them to a cup containing boiling water. Then the leaves need to be steeped for ten to twenty minutes and left until cooled. Using a cotton ball the solution will then be applied on the acne affected areas.

Consuming some fresh basil can boost your immune system. But, basil is more effective as a topical remedy for acne. The simplest way to use basil for acne removal is to apply basil tea on your skin. Mix 2-3 teaspoons of dried leaves with a cup of water, boil for about 15 minutes, strain and cool. If you use fresh basil, make sure that you crush the leaves to release its natural oils. Use a cotton ball to dab the tea on your skin. Follow this twice a day and your complexion will become noticeably brighter and smoother. You can refrigerate the unused tea for a week.

Parsley

If you have parsley on your garden, well, this is the best time to put them in use. Create a concoction by boiling fresh parsley leaves in water. Let it boil for at least 15-20 minutes. Put the finished products on a bottle. Get a ball of cotton and wet it on the mixture of parsley. Swab it on the dark blotches on your face. This is much like using a cleanser, but a bit more of a natural and green method.

Tomato

Wash a tomato well and cut it into half. Apply directly all over your face letting the juice spread generously. Let it dry and wash it off with cold water. Tomato being a natural astringent also closes the open pores and gives the skin a blemish-free smooth look. It works very well for skin regeneration too by promoting cellular growth.

Alternatively, you may mix tomato pulp with some honey and spread on the face as a mask. Let it dry and wash off with water. It would help in clearing acne scars as well as help moisturize the skin well.

You can also prepare a face mask with a mixture of tomato and avocado pulp which is also effective in controlling oil secretion of the skin and keeping the skin acne-free.

Another simple way to treat acne prone skin is by using cucumber and tomato astringent. Slice the cucumber and neatly squeeze out the juices of these slices. Take a tomato and blend it in a blender to get a smooth pulp, strain the tomato juice. Mix the cucumber and tomato juice together and apply it on your face with the help of a cotton ball. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and wash it off with warm water.
