Why Flu May Really Cause Back Pain and How to Prevent It?

Why Flu May Really Cause Back Pain and How to Prevent It? The most common question people want to know is why the flu may really cause back pain when backache is not a commonly accepted symptom of influenza. Read on to find out more.
Over 105 Natural Home Remedies to Treat Almost Any Illness

Every year millions of Americans take to bed stricken with the flu. The flu, known as influenza, is a nasty virus that is often accompanied by a series of unpleasant symptoms including nausea, fever, sore throat, fatigue, dry cough, runny nose and back pain.

Back pain? That’s right many flu sufferers often experience lower back pain as part of their flu symptoms. The back pain itself can run the gamut from an annoying discomfort to throbbing aches and tender skin.

Although not all flu sufferers find their symptoms include back pain, those who do will suffer back pain as long as the flu virus persists. The good news is that as the flu virus works its way through the body, the intensity of the back pain will subside.

Why Back Pain?

The most common question people want to know is why the flu may really cause back pain when backache is not a commonly accepted symptom of influenza.

It’s no secret that aches and pains are common with the flu, it’s why we feel drained and achy constantly, but prolonged and severe back pain just isn’t typical.

In fact it is exactly those same aches and pains associated with the flu that cause such excruciating back pain for some. When you have the flu elevated levels of molecules known as cytokines and chemokines, which are created by cells affected by flu.

Both cytokines and chemokines are pro-inflammatory which simply means they encourage inflammation. When the levels of both of these molecules are elevated higher than usual for influenza, severe back pain is often the result.

Pre-Existing Back Pain

While there are plenty of people who experience back pain during bouts of flu, there is another reason why flu may really cause back pain; a history of back pain.

If you have recently injured your back or suffer from chronic back pain, this pain will often resurface as part of flu symptoms. Again, those aches and pains commonly found in flu sufferers will bring out the back pain again.

Sometimes however the link between back pain and flu, is simply happenstance. The flu is a very common virus and many people suffer from the flu every single year. With high numbers in both populations it is quite likely they will overlap on occasion.

Relief

Seeking relief from flu symptoms can be accomplished by a visit to your primary care physician or over the counter medications. Many of these medications contain ingredients to fight specific symptoms include fever, aches & pains, and a dry cough. Unfortunately the pain killers found in flu medications will do scant little to help relieve severe back pain.

Before you can seek relief however, you need to visit your doctor to confirm that you have the flu rather than some other sickness. Because most flu symptoms are found in other illnesses like a kidney infection or urinary tract infection and sometimes a severe cold, you want to make sure the right sickness is being treated. Additionally if you do not have the flu, you definitely want to find out why you have severe back pain.

Flu-related back pain may require an additional set of medications. Whether you use traditional treatments for back pain or alternative treatments for back pain, relieving that pain is unlikely to be accomplished using flu meds.

You don’t want to cause flu symptoms to worsen so treat back pain beginning with the least invasive forms of pain relief that will not slow down your flu recovery.

Obviously exercising is not an effective way to treat flu related back pain, but topical creams and painkillers are. Just make sure you’re not taking too much acetaminophen or ibuprofen, as these are often contained in flu medications.

Manuka Honey benefits for Skin and Health

More and more people want to buy Manuka honey. Manuka honey is a type of honey only found in New Zealand (Manuka is New Zealand’s native tree). It is recognised internationally because it contains unique phytochemical properties, making it more valuable and superior than other types of honey. The big audience slowly becomes aware of the benefits of this special honey.

Many are correctly wary of the next so called miracle product that’s being hyped by the natural products business. But when the first celebrities like Britney Spears, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Katherine Jenkins embrace this wonderful natural product the mass will follow soon. And not just like that.

This honey from New Zealand actually IS a unique and wonderful product. Hospitals, burn centers and doctors have rediscovered the medical uses of this special natural product. It is increasingly considered a viable treatment but also as an effective home remedy for many complaints like acid reflux and ringworm.

Manuka honey may also be an effective treatment for high cholesterol and heart disease. A recent German study found that manuka honey did not significantly lower cholesterol in patients. However, natural health experts argue that honey, particularly when mixed with cinnamon, can actually help unclog arteries and reduces the risk of heart attack.

For at least 2700 years, honey has been used by humans to treat a variety of ailments through topical application, but only recently have the antiseptic and antibacterial properties of honey been chemically explained.

When honey is used topically (as, for example, a wound dressing), hydrogen peroxide is produced by dilution of the honey with body fluids. As a result, hydrogen peroxide is released slowly and acts as an antiseptic.

Clinical studies demonstrate that Manuka Honey produces faster results with fewer complications compared to the standard medical treatments for everything from infected wounds to eczema. Manuka Honey is found to have anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties and has been found to have no negative side effects when used for medical purposes.

Topical honey has been used successfully in a comprehensive treatment of diabetic ulcers when the patient cannot use other topical antibiotics. Inflammation, swelling and pain are quickly reduced in acne, unpleasant odours cease, sloughing of necrotic tissue occurs.

In many of the cases, honey was used on infected acne lesions not responding to standard antibiotic and antiseptic therapy. It was found in almost all of the cases to be very effective in rapidly clearing up infection and promoting healing.

Honey has been widely use as a topical antibacterial agent for the treatment of spots, blemishes and scarring acne, there being many reports of its effectiveness.

When the question is about making oneself look beautiful nobody would set their feet back; they will buy manuka honey and take complete advantage of excellent properties of this honey.

One of my favourite natural treatments for acne and spots is honey. Honey applied in the early stages of an acne spot, will help the skin, by reducing the inflammation in the tissues. Honey is a very useful, natural remedy for acne and research has shown it to be very effective.

Just apply the honey on your face, gently massage in a circular motion for about a minute before you rinse it off. This works on all types of skin, especially for acne and aging skin.

You can also use Manuka honey in your facial masks and exfoliators to keep your skin clean, soft and glowing. So there is a natural skin treatment – try Manuka honey, you will be amazed with the results.

But you have to realize that some Manuka honey is better than others depending on its UMF factor. The higher the UMF level, the higher the level of anti-bacterial benefits.  UMF which stands for Unique Manuka Factor is a quality grading which meets some stringent laboratory testing in order to be labelled as “active”.

If you want to buy the real thing you should only buy Manuka honey that has UMF on its label with a rating of at least 15 UMF (or a MGO Rating of minimal 100). It is only then that the the honey may be marketed as UMF Manuka honey or Active Manuka Honey. Once you see this on the side of the bottle you’ll know that you have the right product for honey for acne.

Skin care is an on-going process and natural ingredients such as active manuka honey can be a vital step. Take the time to find a safe, gentle, all-natural product which works for you and your skin will respond. You’ll be looking and feeling younger and healthier before you know it, the all-natural way!

Are you looking for homemade facial mask ideas that incorporate those natural nutrients that work to keep your skin healthy? Any mask that utilizes plant oils, and vitamin and plant based antioxidants will directly benefit the healthy glow of your skin.

A good homemade facial mask is a type of hydrating mask that stays on your face for 20 to 30 minutes and actually penetrates the skin providing moisture to the next level. Many tightening or cleansing masks are different colors and harden as they stay on your face, but a honey hydrating mask is almost clear in color. You may even forget you have it on.

If you feel like your skin has lost its glow, you need to find a good honey facial mask to give your skin a boost. Everyday cleansers are applied to our face and then quickly wiped or rinsed off so there effects are minimal. Their purpose is really to cleanse the top layer of skin and remove makeup, mascara and eye shadows.

You can do this by making your own facial mask. Homemade facial masks are cheap and easy to make, as well as being very effective. Some facial masks are expensive to buy and why bother when you can do it in the comfort of your own home. The basic principle is putting food on your face. What could be so hard about that!

The application of any homemade facial mask is the same. First cleanse your skin, and then apply your mixture. Leave to set for approximately 10 minutes before removing with warm water. Dry the skin gently before applying a natural moisturizer.

When you are making your own honey facial mask, make sure you choose a good quality honey as its main ingredient. Manuka honey is a product of New Zealand and has a 16 plus rating which means it has the highest level of antioxidant properties.

Honey has been recognized as a topical solution for a number of major skin issues, so you at least know that what you are putting on your skin is natural and safe and not going to create further problems down the road.

If you have acne problem, honey is an ideal choice because it is a natural acne treatment that has little side effects. Whereas topical ointments and creams leave your skin dry and irritated, honey locks in moisture on the skin and makes it softer and suppler.

A honey facial mask is both cheap and easy to make: just dip a sponge into a bowl of honey and apply a thin layer on your face while gently massaging the skin. Keep it on for about 10 minutes, and then rinse off with water.

Over the years I have also made/used many facial masks using other natural ingredients, but I wanted to share with you the ones that have been most effective for me. The following are my Top 6 Homemade Facial Masks.

The Classic Egg White and Yogurt Homemade Facial Mask

This has to be the easiest of all the homemade facial masks, which is why I call it the classic! Composing of just 2 ingredients and under 3 minutes to prepare, this is a quick and easy way to better looking skin.

Ingredients: – 2 egg whites – 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt

How to: Simply separate the 2 egg whites and place in a bowl. Add in the plain yogurt and mix together. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.

Coffee and Cocoa Homemade Facial Mask

Probably the best smelling of any face mask. This is another very simple face mask to prepare and very effective for rejuvenating your skin.

Ingredients: – 4 tablespoons of ground coffee beans – 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder – 8 tablespoons of plain yogurt – 2 tablespoons of honey. (This is typically for dry skin, so you can substitute this for lemon juice if you have oily skin)

How to: Grind the coffee beans and the cocoa powder in a bowl. Add in the honey and the yogurt to form a dense mixture. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer. The key to this is to ensure that the coffee beans are very finely ground to avoid any damage to the face.

Lemon Juice Homemade Facial Mask

This is a facial mask for oily skin.

Ingredients: 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 drop of sweet almond oil and 3 drops of diluted lemon juice for a homemade facial mask.

How to: Mix all these ingredients together. Apply mixture to face, let stand for 15 – 20 minutes then rinse with water.  Gently dry with towel.  This helps reduce visible signs of pre-mature aging.

Banana and Honey Homemade Facial Mask

For sure these ingredients you can find around the house and again super easy to prepare.

Ingredients: – 1 banana – 1 tablespoon of honey – 1 tablespoon of orange juice

How to: Very simply mash up the banana and mix with the honey and orange juice to form a paste. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.

Egg Almond Homemade Facial Mask

This is more a facial mask for dry skin as the almond oil is a miracle worker on dry skin. This is another facial mask using just 2 simple ingredients.

Ingredients: – 1 egg white – 1 teaspoon of almond oil

How to: In a bowl mix the egg white and almond oil together. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.

Cat Litter Homemade Facial Mask

Before you ask what? Yes, you have read the title correctly. This does in fact use cat litter as the source of your face mask and yes, it does work. The cat litter must be 100% clay cat litter for this to work so make sure you read the bag correctly before purchasing.

Ingredients: – 1 bag of 100% clay cat litter – Water – Essential Oil

How to: In a bowl place 1 tablespoon of the cat litter and mix together with water and a couple of drops of the essential oil. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.
