Because they’re not cooked, they retain all of their vitamin and antioxidant powers. Plus, raw foods are among the best for helping your body to detoxify, which allows your clearest complexion to shine through.

 

The best part is you don’t have to go all raw to achieve benefits. You could try it Kate Middleton style, i.e at least one day a week, or simply try to incorporate some of the following raw foods into your meals every day.

 

Healthy Raw Foods List #1 – Dark Leafy Green

 

Spinach, kale, Swiss chard and collards are filled with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber. One such antioxidant is lutein, which is beneficial for your skin and may even help prevent wrinkles.

Researchers, who looked at the benefit of omega-3 fatty acids for reducing sagging skin, found that after three months of supplementation, there was a 10% improvement in firmness. So, not only is fish oil good for skin health, it is good for the appearance, as well. Firmer skin looks less wrinkled.

 

Omega 3 also fights against those nasty free radicals that are flying around. These free radicals also damage the skin and cause wrinkles. Omega 3 lessens this damage and helps prevent collagen breakdown. Without collagen, wrinkles will develop, and your skin will lose its healthy and youthful glow.

They clog skin pores and result in skin infections. Essential fatty acids have a two-fold benefit for acne. First, they cause healthy cell transference, which helps dissolves the fatty deposits that block pores and cause acne. They also work to repair the skin damaged by pimples and blemishes.

 

There is no quick fix or final answer for getting rid of your cellulite. Depending on their genetics, even the thinnest of supermodels sometimes must struggle with the bumpy appearance of fat deposits pressing against the skin.

 

However, essential fatty acids might help in the battle against cellulite. Here are a few ways you can get your required source of Omega 3:

 

Eat cold water fish, like salmon, herring, sardines, and fresh tuna twice a week; supplements of at least 1000 mg of Omega 3 per day; or flaxseed or walnut oil, or walnuts. You can blend either oil into a smoothie to make it more palatable.

 

A word of warning about fish: many fish are caught in polluted waters and may carry a high concentration of heavy metals, which is not good for you. Farmed fish do not have as high a level of Omega 3 because they are fed pellets, rather than algae that the free roaming, but possibly polluted, fish eat.

 

Nuts can be another great natural way to increase your Omega-3 intake. Walnuts, flaxseed, and almonds are abundantly available at your supermarket or convenience store, and can be added as a salad topping, eaten alone as a snack, blended into a smoothie, or best of all, added to breadcrumbs to make a delicious coating for the cold water fish you bought earlier.

 

Grass fed beef is also another source of Omega 3, and possibly milk and cheese from grass fed cows. The mass produced beef nowadays have been fed grain, which doesn’t contain Omega 3.

 

If fish and nuts are difficult to add to your diet due to allergies, availability, or simple taste preference, there are numerous brands of fish oil and Omega-3 supplements available. They come in many different varieties, including fragrance-free and soft-gel, so you’ll easily be able to find one that suits your needs. Whether or not what you eat can help to alleviate or worsen your acne condition has been a hotly debated topic for many years. Before the 1960s, certain foods were thought to exacerbate acne. However, subsequent studies dispelled these alleged associations as myth for almost half a century.

 

Ask any doctor if there is any link between what you eat that can trigger acne breakouts and higher chances that he or she will tell you that there is no direct evidence of such link. However, growing evidence has caused researchers to re-examine the link between diet and acne condition.

 

It is also a fact that a lot of acne sufferers have reported that their acne seemed to get worse when they consumed certain foods and saw dramatic positive change over their acne condition when they eliminated the same foods from their diet and when certain foods with specific nutritional value were incorporated into their diet.

 

So why then do dermatologists still believe that diet does not cause acne? The main reason is due to vested interests from pharmaceutical and food and beverage companies who spent millions of dollars to sponsor research studies to refute the claims that diet has some effect on acne condition.

 

Pharmaceutical companies also sponsor doctors’ research works in return for endorsements on their expensive drugs. The right diet, though not a cure by itself, can help to alleviate symptoms of acne.

 

It therefore does not serve the interests of pharmaceutical companies to promote a clear skin diet if this may cut down the dependence of drugs to treat acne. The truth is that medication alone will not totally cure acne if this is not combined with other efforts to address the root causes of acne.
Recent studies have clearly found a significant connection between diet and acne. Researchers believe carbohydrates with a high glycemic index, which cause glucose and insulin levels to spike, may influence the development and severity of acne. Conversely, a diet high in protein and carbohydrates with a low glycemic index seemed to improve acne breakouts.

 

To test whether if this belief is true, 43 males, between the ages of 15 and 25, were divided into two groups. One group was given foods with a low glycemic index, such as whole grain breads and pasta, legumes, as well as high protein foods. The second group was fed a more “typical” teenage diet consisting of white bread, potatoes, and sugary drinks and snacks.

 

After 12 weeks, those in the high protein-low glycemic index group showed a 50% reduction of acne. The results seem to suggest a possible link between diet and acne development.

 

It now appears that the wrong diet is one of the leading acne contributing factors that can negatively affect hormonal regulation and the natural process of toxic elimination, which can seriously aggravate one’s existing acne.

When you consume any form of refined carbohydrates (white sugar, white flour, white rice) they will cause a rapid spike up of your blood sugar levels which will in turn trigger the production of insulin and other hormones.

 

The increase in production of these hormones will overwhelm your body system which will encourage the skin to excrete large amounts of sebum oil, causing your skin to be very oily. The body oil will chokes up the skin pores encouraging bacteria to stay on the skin. This when combines with the dead skin cells can result in the aggravation of your acne.

 

Sugar is not the only acne aggravating foods. There are several other foods you should clearly stay away from if you ever wish to clear your acne. Limit the amount of soda, sugary snacks, and other “junk foods” whenever possible if you want to clear your acne fast.

 

Instead of highly processed foods, try incorporating more whole grains (such as whole wheat bread, wheat pastas, brown rice, oatmeal, etc.) into your diet, as well as plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit, and lean protein. There are also tons of other foods such as essential fatty acids that are not only excellent for your skin; they can also actually help you clear your acne, by re-balancing your body and promoting an acne-free environment.

 

The right nutrition does play a part to clear your acne.
