Skin pores are like small pits on the face that appear like an orange peel—not an attractive image!

These pores cause the face to look dull and aged. People with oily skin are prone to this problem, thanks to excessive sebum production. The pores can also lead to complications like blackheads and acne, which mar the way you look.

Factors like stress, genetics, and unhealthy skin care also give rise to open pores. The skin loses its elasticity as you age, making the condition worse. There are many ways to minimize the occurrence of skin pores.

Though there are several cosmetic products in the market to deal with this problem, remember that pores are a natural part of your skin and cannot be completely eliminated.

Before you go shopping, you can try some inexpensive, easy and natural home remedies to minimize the appearance of open pores.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #1 – Ice

Ice works as a simple and effective home remedy to help shrink large pores due to its skin tightening effect. It is often used to minimize enlarged pores before applying makeup. It will also stimulate circulation and promote healthier skin.

Wrap a few ice cubes in a clean washcloth and hold it on your skin for 15 to 30 seconds. Do this a few times daily. You can reduce the frequency of use when you see improvement.

Alternatively, you can simply wash your face with ice cold water once daily. To enhance the benefits of this remedy, infuse the water for ice cubes with cucumber juice, apple juice, green tea or rose water.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #2 – Egg Whites

Egg whites are also widely used to shrink enlarged pores because they tone and tighten the skin. Egg white masks are also great for drawing excess oil out of greasy skin.

Simply whisk an egg white and spread it evenly on your face. Allow it to dry completely, and then rinse it off. For better results, after applying the egg white, cover your skin with pieces of tissue paper and peel them off when the mixture dries. Do this once or twice a week on a regular basis.

Alternatively, whip two egg whites along with the juice squeezed from half of a lemon. Spread it on your face, and leave it on for about 10 minutes or until it dries completely. Rinse it off with cool water. Repeat a few times a week for one month.

Another option is to whisk an egg white and mix in two tablespoons each of lemon juice and oatmeal. Spread it on your face and allow it to dry for 30 minutes. Finally, scrub it off and wash your face with cool water. For best results, repeat twice weekly for several weeks.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #3 – Baking Soda

Baking soda works as a gentle exfoliating agent, removing excess oil, dirt and debris from your skin. It also helps balance the pH levels of the skin and reduces problems like acne and pimples due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Mix two tablespoons each of baking soda and lukewarm water. Apply the mixture on your skin and massage in circular motion for a few seconds. Finally, rinse it off with cool water.

Repeat the process daily for five to seven days. Then reduce the frequency to three to five times a week for a few weeks.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #4 – Cucumber

Cucumber works as a natural astringent to help shrink open pores. Plus, it will improve your skin texture and add a fresh glow.

Grate one fresh cucumber and extract its juice. Soak a cotton ball in it and apply the juice on your skin. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.

You can also add a little rose water or lemon juice to the cucumber juice. Apply it on your skin, and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.

You can use either of these remedies daily for about a month or until you notice improvement.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #5 – Honey

Honey is incredibly great for skin, as it has antibacterial, medicinal and healing properties. It contains high amount of potassium that kills those bacteria which clog the pores.

On the other hand, yogurt is a good source of lactic acid that exfoliates your skin and cleanses the pores. Make a combo of yogurt and honey, and apply it on the pores. After a few minutes, rinse it with water.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #6 – Lemon

Cut lemon wedges. Take a wedge and put a little sugar on it. Rub it on your skin for a few minutes. Finally, rinse off with cold water.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #7 – Chamomile

Mix equal proportion of tomato pulp and chamomile powder. Apply it on the open pores and they will contract naturally.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #8 – Aloe Vera

Aloe vera gel has skin cleansing properties that can seal facial pores. Rub the gel for 5 minutes and leave until it gets dries. Afterwards, wash your face with cool water. You can also add lemon juice to it.

Oily greasy skin can be genetic or caused by a whole host of unexpected factors like stress, medication, overusing certain skincare products or even getting tan. It may need slightly different care that may give you the results you need.

Oily skin usually looks greasy, thick, coarse and shiny.

It has enlarged pores and tends to break into acne. You can conduct a simple test to find out whether your skin is oily. Wipe your face with a clean facial tissue in the morning when you have just woken up.

If your skin is oily, the paper will have spots of facial oil on it corresponding to areas of your cheeks, nose or forehead. Nonetheless, oily greasy skin saves you from early aging and wrinkling of the skin.

Think for a moment! Find out do’s and don’ts for oily greasy skin. Here are some.

Do’s:

Use a natural water soluble cleanser twice a day to cleanse your face. Your cleanser should contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

After a day of work, dust and grime can settle on the skin and sweat can seep this junk into your pores. This also happens from the sweat after a workout clogging the pores.

So it’s important to wash your face in the morning, before going to bed and after working up a serious sweat.

You may go for Bio element Oil Control Mattifier to soak up excess shine on the surface of your skin while targeting oil sebum deep in your follicles.

Use oil-free moisturisers which tend to contain glycerine and other humectants that draw water out onto the skin. You may consider hydrating liquids, gels and sebum. The goal of moisturizing your skin is to hydrate rather than adding oil to it. This may lessen oil production effectively.

Tone your skin regularly with an alcohol-free toner loaded with antioxidants and skin-replenishing ingredients.

Oily greasy skin tends to have an extra thick coat of built-up dead skin along with thickened pore lining. Gently exfoliating is one of the most important skincare steps for people having oily skin. It may remove build-up grime and diminish clogged pores.

Dermatologists recommend sunscreens especially for oily greasy skin. Regular use of sunscreen with SPF 25 is the best way to prevent oily skin from premature aging, wrinkling, pigmentation and loss of natural radiance.

Drink plenty of water. You may flavour it up with fresh lemon juice.

You may consume unsalted nuts, good quality dark chocolate, berries, avocados, bananas, lean poultry, oily fish, vegan cheese, wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta, oats, brown rice, home-made soups, almond milk and other foods rich in fibre. Eat in moderation!

Try cooking with healthy fats like olive oil.

Change your cooking habits by boiling, grilling, baking and poaching.

If these do’s don’t work to get the grease under control, see your dermatologist.

Don’ts:

Don’t use oil blotting sheets of any brand to absorb extra oil. Although some of the oil is absorbed into the paper, you may push the rest of the dirt, grim, makeup and excess oil into your pores. It may create breakouts, blackheads, bumps and overall skin congestion.

Don’t over wash your face. It may deprive glands of natural oils that may lead to clogged and enlarged pores.

Avoid using any unnecessary skin tools, including oil, blotting paper, blemish extractions, wash cloth, rotating cleanser brushes, buff puffs, pore strips and more. They can only prompt the skin to produce excess oil by stripping the skin of necessary oils.

Never use rich creams or greasy ointments. They suffocate the skin with more grease.

Harsh scrubs can strip the skin leading to more oil production. Say no to them.

Heavy makeup is not meant for people with oily skin. Look for oil-free options when buying cosmetics. You may look on the labels for niacin amide, a B vitamin derivative that has been shown to absorb oil.

Failing to wash makeup all off before going to bed can be disastrous for you. It can clog pores very badly.

Foods to be avoided: Dairy products, refined carbohydrates, inflammatory fats, sugar, excess of salt, alcohol and aerated drinks.

The health and beauty of your skin later in life largely depends on what you eat and how you take care of yourself. Match your skin type with the recommended methods to improve your look and slow the ageing process.

Let your skin glow with a dewy dash instead of looking shiny and greasy with large pores.

Are you looking for any safe and natural cleaning tips that are also affordable and effective?

Is the cabinet under your kitchen sink overflowing with cleaning sprays, powders and scrubs that claim to ‘cut grease’ and ‘remove stains’ like magic … yet typically fail to deliver?

Not only are most commercial cleaners costly, but they often work no better than cleaners you could make, for pennies, using ingredients you probably already have.

Most people are pleasantly surprised when they make the switch toward natural cleaners, as aside from the cost savings they are able to ditch their chemical cleaners for safer natural ingredients.

The fact of the matter is, with every spritz and spray of a commercial cleaner, you’re adding toxic air pollution to your home’s air.

The American Lung Association states:

“Many cleaning supplies or household products can irritate the eyes or the throat or cause headaches or other health problems.

Some products release dangerous chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Other harmful ingredients include ammonia and bleach. Even natural fragrances such as citrus can react to produce dangerous pollutants indoors.

VOCs and other chemicals released when using cleaning supplies contribute to chronic respiratory problems, allergic reactions and headaches.

Studies are underway to assess how these chemicals affect people who have asthma and other respiratory illnesses. However, past studies link exposure to chemicals from cleaning supplies to occupational asthma and other respiratory illnesses.”

There is a Better Way! 15 Natural Cleaning Tips

You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your family’s health for the sake of cleanliness.

Try these natural cleaning tips that follow instead, to remove grease from pans, disinfect your kitchen counters, remove tough soap scum and more … safely and effectively.

  1. Burned-on Food:Sprinkle salt and fresh lime juice into the pan, then scrub away, using extra salt as needed. 1. Tea and coffee stains:Remove these stains from your coffee cups using salt mixed with vinegar. You can also try a mixture of baking soda and water, and allow to sit overnight.

  1. Grease on pans:Sprinkle salt in the bottom of the pan and let it absorb the oil. Add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda to your regular dish soap and the grease will melt away. Another trick is to pour club soda into a still-warm cast iron pan to help keep food from sticking and make clean-up easier.

  1. Grout:Add lemon juice to two teaspoons of cream of tartar. Put the paste on a toothbrush and scrub away.

  1. Cutting boards:Squeeze fresh lemon juice onto you r plastic or wood cutting boards. Let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse, to remove stains.

  1. Dishwasher:Put vinegar in the soap container and let it run as normal to clean out your dishwasher. You can also fill a dishwasher-safe bowl with vinegar and set it on the top rack, then run a cycle as usual.

  1. Oven:Make a paste of baking soda and water then apply it to your oven. Let it sit overnight then scour off the grime.

  1. Coffee maker:Pour a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water into your coffee maker and let it brew. Stop the cycle halfway through to allow it to sit (45-60 minutes) then restart. Run a few cycles of plain water afterward to clear out the vinegar.

  1. Toilets:Combine two teaspoons tea-tree essential oil to two cups of water in a spray bottle. Spritz your toilet bowl (inside and out) and let sit for 30 minutes before scrubbing.

  1. Shower doors: A few drops of lemon essential oil on a sponge will help remove soap scum from your shower doors, and even protect them from future build-up.

  1. Mildew:Try a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar on mildew, let it sit for a few minutes, the scrub off.

  1. Windows:10 drops of lavender or lemongrass essential oils mixed with about two ounces of water is an excellent window cleaner. Vinegar and water in a spray bottle is another natural solution to make your windows sparkle. Try using newspaper instead of paper towel to scrub.

  1. Disinfecting countertop spray:Try mixing tea tree oil (30 drops) with two cups of water and a few tablespoons of castile soap for a natural disinfectant (makes a great bleach alternative).

  1. Carpet deodorizer:Sprinkle baking soda on your carpets, let it sit for 30 minutes then vacuum. You can also do this on your upholstery.

  1. Garbage disposal:Cut up half a lemon and grind it in your disposal for instant freshening. You can also pour in about half a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar, let it sit for 15 minutes, then run your disposal for a tougher cleaning.

The first vinegar is said to have been created on accident, after grape juice was left to sit out for too long. The juice first turned into wine and then into vinegar, and today the literal meaning of vinegar (in French) is actually “sour wine.”

Vinegar has been valued since ancient times for its medicinal properties. Even Hippocrates is said to have used it as a wound treatment. There are many different types of vinegar, as it can be made from anything containing sugar (most commonly fruits, rice or wine, for example).

Vinegar is formed when microorganisms, particularly yeasts, change the sugar into alcohol (a process known as alcoholic fermentation). Then “acetobacter” bacteria convert the alcohol into acid (a process known as acetic or acid fermentation).

Apple cider vinegar, as you might suspect, is made using this two-part fermentation process with the juice of apples. The finished product, what you know as vinegar, is mostly made up of acetic acid, but it also contains a wealth of vitamins (including B vitamins), mineral salts and other beneficial compounds.

High-quality brands will also contain “mother,” which looks like a murky film in the vinegar but is actually beneficial strands of enzymes and proteins.

Pasteurized vinegar will not contain the mother, which is why it’s typically recommended to seek out unfiltered, unheated and unpasteurized versions, particularly if you plan to consume it.

19 Awesome Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

What is apple cider good for? It’s an all-natural health tonic that you can take internally, apply to your skin and hair, and even use to clean your home. The many uses are virtually limitless, but here are some of the best ideas to get you started.

Blood sugar support: Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed may lower blood sugar levels by up to 6 percent in people with type 2 diabetes.

Support healthy cholesterol levels: Chlorogenic acid, found in apple cider vinegar, inhibit oxidation of LDL cholesterol and help protect your heart health.

Weight loss: People who consume vinegar with a high-carb meal consume up to 275 fewer calories for the remainder of the day. This reduction in caloric intake could help you lose 1.5 pounds a month.

Sore throat: Gargle with one-third cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with warm water (the vinegar has antibacterial properties).

Sinus and chest congestion: Add several tablespoons of vinegar to a pot of water then heat until steaming. Carefully inhale the vapor to help break up mucus and clear congestion.

Toenail fungus: Soak toes in a mixture of one part vinegar to two parts water for 15 minutes. Repeat daily.

Nausea (morning sickness, queasiness): A mixture of apple cider vinegar, water and a bit of honey may help calm a queasy stomach.

Sunburn: Gently apply apple cider vinegar to sunburned skin for quick relief.

Bee and jellyfish stings: Apply apple cider vinegar liberally to soothe irritation and relieve itching.

Skin irritations: Bug bites, poison ivy and other skin irritations can be calmed by applying apple cider vinegar directly or soaking in a bath with one cup of vinegar added.

Acid reflux: One tablespoons of unpasteurized, unfiltered vinegar daily may help soothe acid reflux and reduce intestinal spasms.

Dandruff: After you shampoo, rinse your hair with a solution of ½ cup vinegar and two cups warm water. A weekly rinse of this sort can also help remove product-buildup from your hair.

Deodorant: Dab a bit of apple cider vinegar under your arms to kill odor-causing bacteria.

Foot odor: Wiping down your feet with apple cider vinegar will leave them fresh smelling.

Facial toner: Dab a cotton-ball in diluted apple cider vinegar than brush it over your face for a natural toner.

Remove odors from your home: Set out a bowl of apple cider vinegar to help neutralize odors in your home. You can also use this trick in your fridge (leave the cup of the vinegar in your fridge for at least two days).

Jewelry cleaner: Drop solid gold jewelry into a cup of apple cider vinegar. Leave submerged for 15 minutes then dry with a cloth.

Hand cleaner: If your hands are heavily soiled, scrub them with a mixture of cornmeal and apple cider vinegar to remove dirt and stains.

Household cleaning: Vinegar has countless uses for household cleaning, but typically it’s white distilled vinegar that’s used for this purpose (not apple cider vinegar).
