Papaya Skin Brightening Facial Mask


To prepare this skin brightening facial mask, you will need half a cup of unripe papaya (cut into small pieces), 1 teaspoon plain yogurt (preferably Greek yogurt) and 1 teaspoon raw organic honey (preferably manuka honey)


Blend ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Apply to clean skin using fingers; leave on for 8 to 10 minutes. Rinse off using cool water and pat dry. Finish by applying a gentle moisturizer.


Unripe papaya contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids and high levels of papain, an enzyme that helps dissolve dead skin cells. Yogurt adds lactic acid (another alpha-hydroxy) and gives the mask a creamy texture, and honey helps skin retain moisture.


When left on, the mask should tingle slightly; if you have sensitive skin or prefer a gentler exfoliation, use ripe papaya, which has less papain. This skin brightening facial mask exfoliates and stimulates circulation in the face, resulting in a warm, rosy glow.


Pumpkin Skin Brightening Facial Mask


The most common ingredients you can see in most skin brightening products are kojic acid, hydroquinone, licorice, glycolic acid, arbutin and fruit enzymes. You can find them naturally in fruits such as pineapple, papaya, pumpkin, bearberry, blueberry, cranberry, etc.

To prepare this skin brightening facial mask, you will need 2 tablespoons of flour, one quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder, 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (if you have dry skin), one quarter cup of organic plain yogurt (preferably Greek yogurt) and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice (if you have oily skin)


Combine the turmeric powder and flour together. Depending on if you have oily or dry skin, combine in whichever ingredients are needed to aid your skin type as listed above in ingredients list. Once you have the consistency you like for a mask, apply to your clean face and neck and leave it to sit for 20 minutes. Rinse mask off with warm water and a wash cloth that you don’t mind getting stained (turmeric powder stains).
