Individuals who develop tonsil stones experience varying sizes of these unpleasant masses. Tonsil stones often become wedged in the surface of your palatine tonsils, which are located on either side of the back of your throat.

In general, the relative sizes of tonsil stones indicate the extent of the symptoms they produce: the larger the tonsil stone, the more likely it is to be bothersome or problematic.

Tonsil stones, also known as tonsilloliths, are formed when cellular debris, food particles, and microorganisms become lodged in the surface of the tonsils.

These materials combine with saliva and postnasal drip in the tonsils’ external layer of mucosa, which contains crevices that are known as the tonsillar crypts. Once these substances begin to decay and calcify, they become small, pale-colored tonsil stones and may create discomfort.

Smaller sizes of tonsil stones rarely create noticeable symptoms or side effects. Because these are the most common type of tonsil stones, the majority of patients with this condition do not experience symptoms.

As a result, most individuals with tonsil stones are unaware of their condition until their doctor discovers it incidentally through an x-ray or a CAT scan.

Unfortunately, sizes of tonsil stones tend to increase as more debris is deposited and as more bacteria are drawn to the accumulated material.

When sizes of tonsil stones become enlarged and solidified, individuals may begin to experience unpleasant symptoms such as bad breath, difficulty swallowing, earaches, a sore throat, and recurrent inflammation.

Although these side effects are unpleasant, tonsil stones do not appear to be life threatening or to harm your overall health.

If your tonsil stones are not creating significant symptoms or health issues, they are most likely small and may not require treatment. But if you are experiencing discomfort or pain, you are likely suffering from large tonsil stones and should seek treatment.

Speak with your family doctor about your symptoms and concerns. He or she can conduct an oral examination, remove any visible tonsil stones, and suggest at-home remedies or an antibiotic.

If these measures do not reduce your discomfort, your doctor may suggest that you consult an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist. An ENT specialist may recommend that your tonsils be removed surgically if these stones persist.

Dry mouth (xerostomia) can cause bad breath

Dry mouth (xerostomia) can cause bad breath - Bad breath associated with a dry mouth is caused by the reduction of saliva. This reduced saliva flow impairs the natural cleansing mechanisms of the mouth.

Bad breath associated with a dry mouth is caused by the reduction of saliva. This reduced saliva flow impairs the natural cleansing mechanisms of the mouth. Dry mouth, also known as xerostomia, can contribute to unpleasant oral odor and cause discomfort in the mouth.

Dry mouth is not a disease itself. Instead, it is a common side effect of over 400 prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Although dry mouth commonly occurs in most people after a night’s sleep, dry mouth may also occur with the use of certain medications, from prolonged snoring or mouth breathing, or as a result of salivary-gland problems.

Additional reasons for dry mouth include a lack of fluid in the body (dehydration), nutritional deficiencies, the presence of another medical condition or disease (such as in autoimmune disorders like Sjögren’s syndrome), or radiotherapy to the neck and head areas.

If you suffer from dry mouth, you need to pay greater attention to your teeth. When maintaining your daily oral-hygiene routine of brushing your teeth, tongue, and gums and flossing regularly, use an extra-soft toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste after every meal and before going to bed.

Also, avoid using tobacco products and consuming alcohol or caffeine, as these substances contribute to dry mouth and can exacerbate odor by increasing odor-causing bacteria.

To prevent bad breath caused by chronic dry mouth, make sure you are drinking enough water each day. Six to eight glasses of water a day is the minimum recommended amount; this will help reduce oral odor by washing away food particles and bacteria.

Using a humidifier in your bedroom and avoiding breathing through your mouth can also help improve natural saliva flow. If your medications are making you experience bad breath and dry mouth, ask your dentist to recommend an over-the-counter saliva substitute remedy or speak to your doctor about adjusting your medication.

How to Get Rid of Eczema Scars Naturally

When eczema has been a lifelong struggle, scars from the lesions tend to appear on different parts of the body, including the face and arms.

The lesions are a source of real embarrassment for the sufferer especially when they are on open areas such as the face, neck or scalp.

Scars and marks can occur when lesions are scratched continuously and also due to extremely dried up and cracked skin long with untreated swellings.

Eczema scars have different characteristics such as shape, size and colour which are all largely dependent on the acuteness of the skin disorder.

Superficial scars that are brought about by excessive scratching appear as white to light pink scars and deep scars are caused by blisters appearing red or brown.

The good news is that there are ways to prevent, treat and heal and of course learn how to get rid of eczema scars. Prevention as they always say is better than cur.

The methods outlined below will help prevent the likelihood of unsightly scars.

Clean skin. Keep skin fresh and spotless since infection can set in during the scratch and itch cycle. Eczema tends to weaken the uppermost surface of skin and constant and excessive scratching causes the skin to break. Airborne infection can then set in.

Prevent infections with timely treatment. Infection causes wounds to remain open longer, thus increasing the risk for infection and scars develop as the body produces rubber-like collagen in order to fill the lesion. This causes the formation of scars.

Use Vitamin C and E. To help treat and beat eczema scars, the use of topical Vitamin C is advised as it promotes the development of fresh skin cells. It brightens the skin tone allowing the scar to subtly fade in with the natural skin tone.

A Vitamin C compress made at home and applied to scars by soaking a clean piece of cotton cloth in concentrated lemon juice and applying to the scars helps to treat and beat eczema cars.

Try exfoliating the skin before applying the treatment. Vitamin E lotions and creams are also effective learning how to get rid of eczema.

Use Baking soda. This common household item is perfect as an exfoliant for skin as it helps remove scarred and dead skin cells. In fact, it can be used prior to the use of a Vitamin C or E compress.

Create your very own homemade scrub using baking soda by simply mixing in 3 tablespoons of baking soda along with a single tablespoon water to produce a pasty mixture before applying it into the area with scars.  Use circular movements when rubbing the paste in for about 2-3 minutes before rinsing.

Scar treatment creams can be purchased and used but ensure that they are made from natural ingredients and no chemicals are included which cause irritation to the skin. Learning how to get rid of eczema naturally is the best method to treat and beat eczema until a cure is found.

7 Ways Absolutely Healthy People Start Their Day - Here to share with you the 7 ways successful and healthy people start their day.

Successful people run the gamut from self-made millionaires to Nobel Prize winners. But virtually all of them share (at least) one common habit: a stellar morning routine. What is it about the first few hours of the day that make them so powerful?

They set the tone for the rest of your day, which means what you do in the morning can make or break the hours that follow (which make up the bulk of your waking life).

Not to mention, just having a morning routine sets you leaps and bounds ahead of the guy who just rolled out of bed, splashed water on his face and barely made it to work on time.

If you are currently “that guy” (or lady), no worries! Everyone can establish a morning routine; there’s nothing complicated about it. Simply set your mind to it, set your alarm and you’re off. Now, on to some excellent ideas to make your morning routine count.

7 Ways Healthy People Start Their Day

1. Wake Up Early (And at the Same Time)

Getting up at the same time each day helps regulate your body clock, making it easier to wake up and helping with energy levels in the long run (it’s a good idea to go to bed at the same time each day too). Getting up early helps you carve out time for you, and it’s a secret shared by many successful and healthy people.

According to Forbes:

“Margaret Thatcher was up every day at 5 a.m.; Frank Lloyd Wright at 4 a.m. and Robert Iger, the CEO of Disney wakes at 4:30 a.m. just to name a few.”

2. Meditate

Five to 15 minutes of meditation in the morning quiets your mind, keeps you in the moment and hones your inner focus. Over the long run, meditating each morning may boost your creativity and productivity while reducing stress and anxiety. As a bonus, you can do this first thing, before even getting out of bed (take advantage of that quasi-awake state!).

3. Get Outdoors

Exposure to bright light in the morning helps you wake up and synchronizes your body clock for the new day. Such exposures may also boost your mood and even play a role in reducing appetite and body weight. If weather prevents you from going outdoors (or it’s still dark when you wake up), a light therapy box can be used.

4. Feed Your Passions

What do you love to do? What makes you happy? Take some time, even 20 minutes, to focus on those ‘indulgent’ activities you’d otherwise push aside. For instance, you might read, work on crafts, build your model train, take your dog for a walk, etc.

5. Feed Your Body

First, drink a glass of water (some like to drink it warm with some lemon) to rehydrate. Next, power up your body for the day.

A healthy breakfast might include a smoothie (homemade, with ingredients like kefir, frozen berries, spinach, whey protein, avocado and flaxseeds) or eggs with vegetables.

6. Get Motivated

What is it you want to accomplish today? How do you want your day to go? Visualizing it will help make it a reality. You may also want to spend a few minutes thinking or journaling about what you’re grateful for (some people like to make a list of three things each day).

Other options: read an inspirational book, watch an inspirational video or write down a mantra for the day (and put it somewhere you’ll see often).

7. Exercise

When you get up early, you can get your workout in and out of the way before most people even wake up.

As “Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary told Business Insider:

“Your health is one investment that is guaranteed to pay dividends!”

You don’t have to go to the gym to do this either. You can find countless bodyweight workout routines online (or make up your own using a combination of push-ups, burpees, mountain climbers and the like).

I also like to do the 4-minute No Excuses program (yes, it’s only 4 minutes!) first thing after I wake up.

After your morning routine is complete, tackle the most mentally challenging task you have to do that day. Many healthy people are most productive and alert in the morning, meaning you’ll knock it out that much easier. Plus, once you get the ‘hard stuff’ out of the way, you’ll feel a weight has been lifted from your shoulders for the rest of your day.
