Rapid weight gains or growth of any kind stretches the skin and challenges its elasticity… Whenever this takes place, stretch marks usually result. They’re lines on the skin’s surface that most often appear near the abdomen. Although they can also occur in other areas such as the buttocks, chest, upper arms, and legs.

When many people think of stretch marks they immediate associate them with pregnancy, but other factors could be involved: genetics, sudden weight loss, rapid growth, and even stress.

While in and of themselves, they’re not harmful, they can cause people to become self-conscious and produce low self-esteem. These small scars on the epidermis appear when the collagen is compromised, from the stress created from stretching the skin. In this process the production of collagen is interrupted, and the result is an annoying mark.

At first it could look red, but after some time a light colored line forms and creates the stretch mark. So, is there anything you can do to get rid of them if you suffer from stretch marks?

Factors like stress, genetics, and unhealthy skin care also give rise to open pores. The skin loses its elasticity as you age, making the condition worse. There are many ways to minimize the occurrence of skin pores.

Though there are several cosmetic products in the market to deal with this problem, remember that pores are a natural part of your skin and cannot be completely eliminated.

Before you go shopping, you can try some inexpensive, easy and natural home remedies to minimize the appearance of open pores.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #1 – Ice

Ice works as a simple and effective home remedy to help shrink large pores due to its skin tightening effect. It is often used to minimize enlarged pores before applying makeup. It will also stimulate circulation and promote healthier skin.

Wrap a few ice cubes in a clean washcloth and hold it on your skin for 15 to 30 seconds. Do this a few times daily. You can reduce the frequency of use when you see improvement.

Alternatively, you can simply wash your face with ice cold water once daily. To enhance the benefits of this remedy, infuse the water for ice cubes with cucumber juice, apple juice, green tea or rose water.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #2 – Egg Whites

Egg whites are also widely used to shrink enlarged pores because they tone and tighten the skin. Egg white masks are also great for drawing excess oil out of greasy skin.

Simply whisk an egg white and spread it evenly on your face. Allow it to dry completely, and then rinse it off. For better results, after applying the egg white, cover your skin with pieces of tissue paper and peel them off when the mixture dries. Do this once or twice a week on a regular basis.

Alternatively, whip two egg whites along with the juice squeezed from half of a lemon. Spread it on your face, and leave it on for about 10 minutes or until it dries completely. Rinse it off with cool water. Repeat a few times a week for one month.

Another option is to whisk an egg white and mix in two tablespoons each of lemon juice and oatmeal. Spread it on your face and allow it to dry for 30 minutes. Finally, scrub it off and wash your face with cool water. For best results, repeat twice weekly for several weeks.

Home Remedies for Open Pores Tip #3 – Baking Soda

Baking soda works as a gentle exfoliating agent, removing excess oil, dirt and debris from your skin. It also helps balance the pH levels of the skin and reduces problems like acne and pimples due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Mix two tablespoons each of baking soda and lukewarm water. Apply the mixture on your skin and massage in circular motion for a few seconds. Finally, rinse it off with cool water.

Repeat the process daily for five to seven days. Then reduce the frequency to three to five times a week for a few weeks.

You can also add a little rose water or lemon juice to the cucumber juice. Apply it on your skin, and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.

You can use either of these remedies daily for about a month or until you notice improvement.

The body wrap is a beauty treatment that helps you tone up and tighten your body, improve your body circulation and detoxify your body. Body wrap can help to remove excess fluids and toxins from the skin, leaving it smoother. It is also be a great way to reduce cellulite and improve the blood circulation through your body. Perhaps the biggest benefit of a body wrap is that it can help to mobilize fat cells so they can be eliminated from your body more easily.

Body wraps work by using specific salts, vitamins, minerals and essential oils that can help detoxify your body and various herbs that can induce feelings of relaxation at the same time as promoting health benefits.

Body wraps basically work in two stages through absorption and squeezing. By wrapping the body, the pores get opened and fluids are extracted or absorbed by the wrap. This stage is called the absorption stage of the body wrap. Once the fluids are extracted, empty pockets are left in between the cells that when squeezed together, makes the body thinner and leaner than before. This is called the squeezing stage.

There are many spas that offer different types of body wraps like chocolate, aloe Vera, seaweed body wrap, etc. But body wraps are expensive at a spa. You can make your own body wrap at home in order to reap the benefits without the excess cost.

Do-it-yourself body wraps that you can make at home are just as effective as the expensive body wraps that you see on the market or in a spa, using natural ingredients that you can easily find. You can learn how to do a weight loss body wrap at home and save hundreds of dollars!

Before you begin, warm up the room so you can lie down comfortably.

If you don’t have an air mattress to lie down on, then you can lie in the bath tub. You might want to put down some old towels wherever you intend to lie down. Drink plenty of water before you begin and pour a fresh glass of water to keep beside you during your wrap.

Cotton sheets, a shower curtain, plastic wrap, tin foil and bandages all make excellent wrapping material’s just make sure you don’t wrap too tightly, and if you do start to feel uncomfortable loosen or remove the wrappings straight away (whilst your body wrap is drying it is quite normal to feel a little itchy when using clay or other drying ingredients)

You can make a body wrap with a variety of ingredients found in nature, and in your pantry. You can make an herbal body wrap with essential oils like lavender, lemongrass, sage or sandalwood, or herbs such as rose petals, chamomile flower powder or clay (green clay stimulates circulation and detoxifies the skin).

Following are some body wrap recipes you can use to create a relaxing spa treatment in the comfort of your home.

DIY Body Wrap Recipe 1 – Chocolate, milk and honey body wrap

What you need for the ingredients are 1 cup cocoa powder, ½ cup whole milk and 1/3 cup honey. Mix together the cocoa powder, whole milk and honey in a plastic bowl. Each of the ingredients helps soften skin for a beneficial body wrap.

Cocoa powder is filled with antioxidants. Cocoa can tone and tighten the skin. It also draws out toxins and increases circulation. It helps to slow down the appearance of aging and prevents a reduction in skin elasticity.

Cut an old sheet into 3-inch-wide strips for placing on the body.

Brush the cocoa powder mixture onto the body with the paintbrush, working your way up from the feet.

Wrap the body with the sheet strips, starting from the feet and moving up the legs, torso and arms. Allow the wrap to sit on the body for 20 minutes. Rinse in a lukewarm shower to get the mixture off the body.

DIY Body Wrap Recipe 2 – Papaya body wrap

Papaya contains enzymes that are well known for softening and revitalizing the skin. Papaya contains a natural fruit acid that works the same way as an alpha hydroxyl acid and is a great exfoliant. It will help to remove dead skin cells leaving your skin feeling smooth and soft.

To make your own papaya body wrap, you puree the pulp of a very ripe papaya until it is smooth (takes just a few seconds with a hand blender). Spread it over your body, making sure not to rub it in. Roll your body in a plastic sheet.

Lie down on some old towels and wrap these around your body too. Set a timer for 20 minutes. When your 20 minutes is up, unwrap the plastic and wash off the papaya in a warm shower. Your skin should feel invigorated immediately.

DIY Body Wrap Recipe 3 – Clay and sea salt body wrap

Clay is one of the most commonly-used body wrap ingredients. Clay is a powder that when mixed with water, works to draw toxins and impurities from your skin. The most common types of clay used for body wraps are bentonite clay, yellow kaolin clay and pink kaolin clay.

Oil absorbing properties in bentonite clay make it suitable for oily skin. In addition, bentonite clay works as an exfoliant by helping removing dead skin cells. Finally, bentonite clay functions to tighten skin pores and stimulate blood flow. Yellow and pink kaolin clays are more suitable for normal to dry skin, as these types do not have absorbent properties.

Sea salt is an exfoliating ingredient. Exfoliants function to remove dirt, debris and dead skin cells, clearing the way for new skins cells to develop. Sea salt also helps revitalize the skin by improving blood flow.

To make your own clay body wrap, you will need 1 cup of green clay, 1/4 cup of sea salt, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 cups of water. Boil the water and sea salt together until the sea salt dissolves and then turn off the heat and add the remaining ingredients. Allow to cool and then rub the mixture all over your body. You can also use coconut oil which has skin and hair benefits!

DIY Body Wrap Recipe 4 – Sea vegetables body wrap

Powdered sea vegetables, such as kelp or dulse, absorb into your skin and function to increase blood flow, draw toxins from lymphatic glands, revitalize, smoothen and restore elasticity to your skin. In addition, sea vegetables are rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, D and K, as well as carotenes and iodine, all important for healthy skin.

To make your own sea vegetable body wrap, you will need to combine 2 cups of clay with 1 cup of kelp or dulse, 2 cups of warm water and 1 cup of sea salt. Rub these mixtures over your body and wrap yourself in a large cotton sheet to soften and pamper your skin.

DIY Body Wrap Recipe 5 – Chocolate, strawberry and papaya body wrap

The needed ingredients are 2-3 fresh strawberries, ½ ripe papaya, ½ cup cocoa powder, 1/3 cup honey, 5-6 tablespoons sweet almond oil,

Put cocoa powder, papaya, strawberry, honey, almond in a blender and blend well. After this, you can apply this to your entire body with the help of a paintbrush. Wrap your body with the cling wrap and rinse off after half an hour.
