We all understand the benefits of regularly scrubbing or exfoliating your skin. As today I’ll write about a DIY scrub recipe I simply want to re-iterate the importance the exfoliation in your skin care regime.

As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. This will mean that our body is getting slower in shedding skin cells and generating new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, this can cause the skin to look dull, rough, and dry. Moreover, the side effects of this build-up of dead skin cells are excess oil and clogged pores, leading to blemishes and acne.

Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin pores and uncovers fresh new cells below thus helps keeping your complexion clean and clear. In short, a regular exfoliating routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy

Today the market is flooded with million products that will exfoliate your skin. Products that contain all harmful ingredients like plastics, irritating fragrances, glycerin, parabens, phthalates and other questionable chemicals. These commercially-prepared exfoliating scrubs can do a lot of damage to the delicate facial skin rather than doing some good. The good news is that safe scrubs are very easy to make at the comfort of your home, inexpensive, and are good for your skin too!

In fact, the herbs you can find around, everywhere can make great natural skin care remedies. For example, a combination of peppermint, water, lemon juice and sage is great for oily skin. Yoghurt and rice flour makes a great scrub that exfoliates your skin without damaging it. Potato juice can lighten your skin. Cucumber slices, as everyone knows, are one of the best natural skin care remedies, for tired eyes. Neem and turmeric both work wonders for the skin, leaving it young and glowing.

Today I’m gonna share with you a few recipes for getting a glowing skin using rice flour or powder as the main ingredient.  Rice flour is simply uncooked rice that has been grounded to fine powder. Rice powder or flour is a widely known ingredient to treat blemishes, wrinkles and pigmentation. Water or milk added to rice powder creates a paste, which can be used as a face mask.

Rice flour is incredibly moisturizing and exfoliating to the skin. It can be used on face, body or (especially) feet for silky skin.  Bioactive compounds in rice flour have been widely used as antioxidants in skin care products. Rice flour contains phytic acid which exfoliates and increases blood flow to your skin.

In fact, this ingredient has been used as an anti-aging skin treatment in many Asian countries for centuries. The Geishas in Japan, for example, use rice powder in their beauty routine and despite their heavy makeup, their skin remain porcelain smooth.

In ancient Indonesia, field workers applied a cream made from rice powder and water to their skin, in order to protect it from the sun. Thus Rice powder is an excellent remedy to get rid of stubborn tan.

This is because rice contains a high concentration of PABA. PABA (para aminobenzoic acid) is a very good sunscreen. When taken internally, PABA also raises the Vitamin C levels in our bodies. Plus it is a good anti-inflammatory agent. It soothes sunburns and also promotes the skin’s repair. It is an antioxidant too.

Rice also contains two other sun protecting agents – ferulic acid and allantoin. Ferulic acid is an antioxidant. Incredibly, scientists have found that when ferulic acid is added to Vitamin C and E, its sun protection ability doubled. (Scroll down this page to read an extract of the study’s findings.) Allantoin is a good anti-inflammatory agent. It soothes sunburns and also promotes the skin’s repair.

Besides offering UV protection, rice powder has exfoliating properties and so that it can help to keeps the skin looking brighter. Other than that, rice powder has a chemical structure similar to ceramide, and ceramide increases collagen production to make skin suppler and free of wrinkles.

While there has been some controversy regarding whether rice powder was involved in acne breakouts, scientists have found that, in fact, the powder of rice actually helps heal acne and skin inflammations, which are actually caused by bacteria produced in the skins pores. Because the powder of rice allows the skin and pores to breathe, while providing emollient and exfoliates to the skin, it does, in fact help cure acne.

Here are a few recipes you can use for your skin care regiment:

Rice flour facial mask recipe #1 – For wrinkles

You mix 1 cup of rice flour, 1 cup of milk and 1 tablespoon honey to make a paste. Coat your face and neck with the paste and rinse off after 20 minutes. It’s a wonderful remedy for wrinkles and it also cleans your skin.

Rice flour facial mask recipe #2 – For skin brightening

For getting bright skin make a paste by mixing rice powder and turmeric powder in equal quantities. Add some milk to it to make a smooth paste. Apply this mask on your face and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water and see the results

Rice flour facial mask recipe #3 – For dry skin and sun spots

You will need 10 tablespoons of rice flour, 5 tablespoons of milk powder and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Mix all of them together, add a little bit of water, and stir until it becomes a thick paste. You can apply the paste on your face, hands and legs. After 15 to 20 minutes later, rinse off with lukewarm water.

I recommend leaving the mask on your body for 30 minutes for the whitening effect, but only leave it on your face for 10-15 minutes because it’s real super tight! Do this treatment 2-3 times a week, or whenever you go out under super-hot sun!

These are the 3 rice facial mask recipes that are homemade and really effective. Just make them any time of the day to get a clear skin. Make sure you do not apply it on a regular basis. Face scrubs can damage the sensitivity and softness of the skin. Also be gentle while scrubbing, use wet fingertips. Start with circular motions and then go to anti-circular motions. Go and try these recipes to get the beautiful glow on your face.
