You can use tea tree oil to help you keep acne away very efficiently. Tea tree oil is an essential oil that can be used as an antiseptic and as an astringent. Research indicates that tree oil decreases both inflamed and no-inflamed acne.

A study published in the October 15, 1990 issue of Medical Journal of Australia found that tea tree oil gel of 5% strength had comparable effects to 5% benzoyl peroxide lotion, a standard acne treatment.

Another study published in the December 2002 issue of the British Journal of Dermatology, found that participants experienced a significant reduction of induced allergic skin reaction within 10 minutes after a topical application of 100% tea tree oil.

What you need to know is though effective, tea tree oil takes longer than with other acne treatments to show results, but acne sufferers using tea tree oil experience fewer side effects than using benzoyl peroxide. For more mild acne, tea tree oil should work within a week. For more severe acne, tea tree oil may take several months.

The following are three recipes of facial masks prepared with tea tree oil as a main ingredient.

Tea Tree Oil and Green Clay Mask

This mask is best suited for oily skin. This recipe creates a mask with a paste-like consistency. Because you are using fresh ingredients which have a limited shelf life, it is best to use it within a week. The ingredients you need are one egg yolk, two tablespoons of green clay, one tablespoon of manuka honey, one drop of tea tree oil and one tablespoon of lemon juice.

You mix all the ingredients together to form a paste. If the paste turns out to be too thick, you can dilute it out with a little bit of water. You spread the paste over your face and allow the mask to sit for 20 minutes. After that, you rinse off with lukewarm water.

Tea Tree Oil and Yogurt Mask

This mask is also good for excessively oily skin. To prepare the mask, you need two drops of tea tree oil, one tablespoon corn flour, one tablespoon lemon juice, one tablespoon honey and one tablespoon yogurt. You mix them up together to form a paste and apply it over your face. You leave it on for 15 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water.

Tea Tree Oil and Curd Mask

This mask needs a little more tea tree oil. You need to make some dense curd by straining a cup of unflavoured yogurt using a piece of cheese cloth. You then create a paste by adding 6 drops of tea tree oil to one tablespoon of dense curd. Apply this paste on your face and let it stays for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

You may be familiar with some products that offer overnight relief. However, these suggestions are equally effective and more economical to follow. However, you must be reminded that of the many ways on how to keep acne away, the severity of your acne condition should determine your recovery speed.

Essentially, the skin manages to heal on its own. What these suggestions on how to keep acne away do is to speed up its healing process. In truth, seldom do you see severe acne conditions to improve overnight, but with the right technique, it can be done without the need to buy expensive acne treatments with designer labels.
