Summary – Best Diabetic Diet

This post discusses about the hard facts about diabetes, what causes diabetes and what foods to eat or avoid in the best diabetic diet.  There are 2 video clips about the dangerous foods to avoid and the top 10 foods to have in the best diabetic diet.

Cold Hard Facts about Diabetes

World Diabetes Day, the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign, is focused on Women and Diabetes. According to the International Diabetes Federation, 199 million women have type-2 diabetes, and that is projected to increase to 313 million by 2040.

In fact, diabetes is a leading cause of death among women. And that’s a scary fact. Diabetes has always been a hot topic for me, because it’s a worldwide epidemic that affects everyone, not just women: It’s estimated that 552 million people could have type-2 diabetes in the next two decades.

Currently, half of the U.S. population is diabetic or pre-diabetic.  It’s more important now, more than ever, to get the word out on what causes type-2 diabetes, and what you can do to prevent and control it.

What Causes Type-2 Diabetes?

There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. In addition, there is gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy in some women when hormone changes prevent insulin from working properly, but the condition usually resolves after childbirth.

Meanwhile, both types 1 and 2 are chronic diseases that affect how your body regulates blood sugar, or glucose, which is the fuel that feeds your body’s cells. Insulin is needed to make this happens.

People with type-1 diabetes can’t produce insulin at all, People with type-2 diabetes can’t control their insulin levels and eventually may not produce insulin at all. This starts with insulin resistance, and it may happen gradually over time. While type-1 diabetes can’t be prevented or reversed, type-2 diabetes can.

The Best Diabetic Diet for Preventing and Controlling Type-2 Diabetes

There continues to be a compelling research-backed argument that shows that cutting back on carbs has the greatest effect on regulating blood sugar levels, because when broken down through digestion, carbs boost the body’s blood sugar levels, which prompts the release of insulin.

In other words, the more carbs you eat, especially processed carbs and anything containing white flour or sugar, the more they mess with your blood sugar levels. Add in weight gain and inactivity, and this continual abuse on your body leads to prediabetes and possibly type-2 diabetes.

Typically, once you get to this point, doctors tend to prescribe medication that helps manage your blood sugar levels, but I’m a big believer that better health through nutrition, not drugs, is possible. This is why a low carb diet like Atkins may help prevent and control type-2 diabetes.

In fact, Atkins may be the best diabetic diet because it eliminates the huge amounts of processed carbs that have become so easily accessible here and around the world, and focuses on a way of eating that features high-fiber carbohydrates that have the least impact on blood sugar, like colorful fresh vegetables; nuts; some low- glycemic fruits, such as berries; coupled with protein and healthy fats; is effective and sustainable in managing type-2 diabetes.

According to the American Diabetes Association, the best diabetic diet should include

  • Proteins – beans, nuts, poultry, eggs, oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, and sardines
  • Fruits and Vegetables – berries, sweet potatoes, nonstarchy vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli, collard greens, kale, and okra
  • Dairy – low or non-fat milk, low or non-fat yogurt
  • Grains – whole grains, such as brown rice and whole-wheat pasta

The Best Diabetic Diet should exclude the following:

  • processed grains, such as white rice or white pasta
  • fruits with added sweeteners, including apple sauce, jam, and some canned fruits
  • full-fat dairy
  • fried foods or foods high in trans fats or saturated fats
  • foods made with refined flour
  • any food with a high glycemic load

How to Clear Toxins Out of Your Body?

How to Clear Toxins Out of Your Body? Avoiding toxins is next to impossible, but assisting your body in removing them is not. Here is how you can clear toxins out of your body.

Your body is a temple, but sadly it’s likely a heavily polluted one. No matter how healthy you eat and how “clean” you try to live, toxins are difficult — if not impossible — to escape.

They’re found in food and water; they exist in your home’s carpeting, dust and couch cushions; they’re in your personal care products … they’re most likely even in the air you’re breathing right now.

Over a lifetime, exposure to these toxins adds up, so much so that when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted the Fourth National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals, they found an average of 212 chemicals in the blood and urine of the U.S. population.

What Toxins Are Most Common?

The CDC report noted widespread exposure to a startling array of chemicals, including:

  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, which are fire-retardant chemicals used widely in household furnishings, children’s products and more
  • Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical found in plastics and food packaging (including the lining of canned goods)
  • Perfluorinated chemicals, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which is used in non-stick cookware
  • Triclosan, an antibacterial chemical widely used in toothpaste, hand soap and other personal care products
  • Volatile organic compounds, which are found in countless household products such as paints, air fresheners, carpeting, cosmetics, cleaning products, car emissions and more
  • Perchlorate, which is used in rocket fuel and fireworks
  • Parabens, commonly used as preservatives in personal care products
  • Phthalates, chemicals used to make plastics more flexible
  • Organophosphorus insecticides, used widely on food crops and also for mosquito control

Most of these chemicals are ubiquitous in air, food, water and household products, which is why they’re now showing up in the majority of Americans. As the CDC reported:

“For most chemicals, people are exposed to low levels through foods or by breathing in air that contains the chemical. People can also be exposed by using products with chemicals in them or which have been stored in containers made with the chemicals.”

Health Risks Linked to Environmental Toxins, Even at Low Levels of Exposure

Many environmental toxins are endocrine disruptors, which means they interfere with your body’s endocrine system and, according to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, “produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects in both humans and wildlife.”

Flame-retardant chemicals, for instance, have been linked to neurodevelopmental delays in children, along with thyroid problems and decreased fertility. The chemical BPA has been linked to heart disease, insulin resistance and reproductive problems. Parabens, another group of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, are also associated with cancer, while insecticides have been linked to ADHD, among other health problems.

In short, the health problems linked to environmental toxins are as vast as the chemicals themselves. Even obesity is a noted consequence of toxic exposures, and in some cases it’s the low level exposures — the type you’re exposed to on a daily basis — that are the worst of all. Writing in Environmental Health Perspectives, researchers explained:

“Receptors typically respond to very low levels of hormone, so it makes sense that they may be activated by low levels of an endocrine mimic, whereas high levels of a chemical may actually cause receptors to shut down altogether, preventing any further response. This is known as “receptor downregulation.”

As a result, some endocrine disruptors have greater effects at low than at high doses; different mechanisms may be operating.”

How to Clear Toxins Out of Your Body in 7 Simple Steps

Avoiding toxins is next to impossible, but assisting your body in removing them is not. In fact, there are a number of ways to help cleanse your system and support your body’s natural detoxification pathways.

  1. Get a Massage

A massage will stimulate your circulatory system, which helps flush toxins from your body. It can also directly stimulate your lymphatic system, which helps remove waste from your body.

  1. Eat More Fiber

Fiber helps move waste through your system, which is why a diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables is important. You can also add psyllium seed husk, a natural form of fiber, to your diet in supplement form (or as part of Natural Cleanse — see #1 below).

  1. Eat Detoxifying Foods

Fresh fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants that help fight off the free radicals that environmental chemicals produce. Especially important are sulfur-containing foods such as onions, garlic, broccoli and kale, as these help your liver to detoxify your body.

  1. Avoid Eating Toxic Foods

Certain foods will only add to your toxic load. This includes processed foods with preservatives and artificial colors and flavors, trans fats, alcohol, and processed meats that contain nitrates. Be mindful also of the packaging your food comes in, and avoid plastics, canned goods, and microwavable containers as much as possible.

  1. Choose Natural Products for Your Home

If you’re spraying chemical cleaning products or insecticides into your home, these are obvious sources of chemical exposures that you can choose to eliminate. Less obvious sources include personal care products, which should contain only natural ingredients, along with your air and water. An air purifier and a water filter can help reduce your daily toxin exposure.

  1. Exercise

When you exercise, your body is able to literally “sweat out” chemicals. Plus, the activity will enhance circulation to also assist detoxification. While all exercise is beneficial for ridding your body of toxins, activities that make you work up a sweat will be particularly beneficial.

  1. Flush Your Colon of Toxins

Did you know that your colon could be clogged with five to 20 pounds of hardened fecal matter? This clogging causes your gastrointestinal (GI) tract to become inflamed, which can cause leaky gut — a condition in which toxins leak into your bloodstream. This, in turn, causes inflammation that is linked to chronic disease, digestive dysfunction and poor health.

You can help to flush impacted fecal matter and other toxins from your system by choosing a gentle detoxification system like Natural Cleanse. Unlike chemical laxatives or fad cleansing diets, which often contain harsh ingredients, Natural Cleanse combines the very latest research and clinical studies in digestive health with centuries of traditional healing wisdom into a natural product that gently releases and flushes toxins from your colon.

In just 2 capsules daily for 30 days, Natural Cleanse can help to flush your colon clear of toxic build up (including impacted fecal matter, toxins, bacteria and parasites) while soothing the inflammation of your GI tract lining to reduce leaky gut.

Natural Cleanse contains herbal remedies like buckthorn bark, ginger root, and milk thistle extract combined with psyllium husk and a patented probiotic blend that helps rebalance your vital gut microflora and is clinically proven to improve digestive function.

If you’re serious about detoxification, try this natural program that everyone is talking about. It’s fast, effective and, best of all, it’s entirely risk-free. Use an entire bottle, and if you’re not satisfied, send it back for a full refund.

The Safest & Best Way to Relieve Stress WITHOUT Drugs

The majority of Americans are living with high to moderate levels of stress, and most report that their stress levels are only increasing, rather than decreasing.

Already, more than half of Americans say they suffer health problems as a result of stress, while another 94 percent believe, rightly, that stress can contribute to the development of major illnesses, such as heart disease, depression and obesity.

Yet, when stress occurs less than one-third of Americans say they are doing a very good job at managing or reducing it. And, as you might suspect, a large number (40 percent) say they have indulged in eating unhealthy foods simply because stress got the better of them.

It’s ironic, really, that stress often drives us to reach for sugary treats like ice cream and cookies, or savory ones like pizza and French fries, as these will only fan the fire further. What you need when you’re under stress are foods carefully chosen to support your body’s biological and emotional desire for calm, comfort and balance.

These foods do exist, and many of them are quite tasty. If you need stress relief yesterday, adding these 10 foods to your diet can help you get back to a state of zen.

Eat These 10 Stress Relieving Foods

  1. Asparagus

Folic acid is a B vitamin known for its role in keeping your mood stabilized, and reducing feelings of depression, anxiety and irritability. Asparagus is an excellent source of this stress-busting nutrient.

  1. Salmon

Stress increases your body’s production of inflammatory hormones called cytokines. Healthy omega-3 fats, which are found in salmon, not only help reduce the production of cytokines but also have been found to cut stress and anxiety levels by up to 20 percent. Omega-3 fats have also been found to help boost mood and relieve depression.

  1. Nuts

Nuts are a rich source of magnesium (you can get close to 25 percent of your recommended daily value from eating just one-quarter cup of almonds), which is often called nature’s “stress buster.” This mineral not only helps your muscles relax and helps you cope with stress, it also can lead to headaches and fatigue if you don’t get enough — which will only make your stress worse. Spinach is another excellent source of magnesium.

  1. Blueberries

Blueberries contain lots of antioxidants, including vitamin C. This nutrient has been found to help your body manage stress more effectively by reducing your body’s production of stress hormones. It may also help to boost your immune function so that you’re better able to fight of stress-related illnesses.

  1. Beef

A lean hamburger or a grass-fed steak may be just the ticket when you’re feeling stressed, as beef is loaded with zinc, a mineral that helps keep your mood stabilized. Low zinc intake has been linked with higher measures of depressive symptoms, while eating more zinc may help to buffer the impacts of stress on your mood.

  1. Whole Grains

A bowl of oatmeal or a slice of hearty whole-grain bread may give your mood a boost, as complex carbohydrates such as these may help to boost your serotonin levels, which are associated with positive mood. They also contain B vitamins, which are well known for helping to calm your nerves.

  1. Mushrooms

Mushrooms, such as crimini, portabella and white mushrooms, are an excellent source of the antioxidant selenium, which not only fights oxidative stress but low levels have been linked to a higher risk of depression, anxiety and fatigue.

  1. Seaweed

Next time you’re ordering sushi, add a seaweed salad to your order. These “veggies of the sea” are packed with iodine, too little of which can lead to depression and fatigue. It also contains stress-fighting magnesium and B vitamins, including pantothenic acid, which is so important for the health of your adrenal glands (pivotal in your body’s stress response) that it’s often known as the “anti-stress” vitamin.

  1. Broccoli

A plate of steamed broccoli, or even some homemade cream of broccoli soup, helps zap stress and anxiety because it’s loaded with B vitamins like folic acid. Broccoli is also a good source of calcium, which may help with mood swings, depression, irritability and anxiety, particularly when it’s related to PMS (premenstrual syndrome).

  1. Cottage Cheese and Fruit

Cottage cheese gives you a hearty dose of both mood-stabilizing calcium and protein to help keep your blood sugar levels steady. Adding in some fruit, such as vitamin-C-rich oranges or berries, gives you extra protection against the chronic effects of stress, as the vitamin C helps inhibit the release of stress hormones.

How to Ease Your Stress by Harnessing the Power of the Sun …

You know how good it feels when the sun warms your skin? It’s like getting a warm hug that instantly soothes away your stress, anxiety and worry.

This is because of a specific wavelength of light known as far-infrared rays (FIR). Unlike ultraviolet rays that are associated with sunburn and skin cancer, FIR is safe and will not burn your skin. What it will do is penetrate deep into your body, and while you cannot see FIR with your naked eye, you can feel it as a source of heat.

The thermal effect of deep heat on your tissues causes blood vessels in capillaries to dilate, which improves blood circulation and promotes pain-relief healing and stress-relieving feelings of wellness.

We don’t all have access to a warm sunny spot 24/7 of course, which is why everyone should own a Far Infrared Heating Pad, which allows you to harness the relaxing, healing power of the sun anytime you wish.
