What is the Link between Size and Shape of Tonsils and Tonsil Stones Formation?

What is the Link between Size and Shape of Tonsils and Tonsil Stones Formation? Your tonsils protect the respiratory tract by making white blood cells and antibodies and by trapping bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other substances that may enter your mouth. However, they can become overrun with accumulated debris leading to tonsil stones formation.

The palatine tonsils are two round lymphatic glands that are positioned on either side of your tongue at the back of your throat. Their primary function is to guard against potential infections before they reach the gastrointestinal tract or respiratory tract.

Your tonsils protect these regions by making white blood cells and antibodies and by trapping bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other substances that may enter your mouth. However, they can become overrun with accumulated debris leading to tonsil stones formation.

Your tonsils are made up of lymphatic tissue that is covered in pink mucosa. Nooks and crevices called the tonsillar crypts cover the surface of the tonsils.

These crypts can become clogged with foreign materials such as dead cells, bacteria, and food particles, especially in those who have large tonsils in relation to their throat diameter, such as children and adolescents. If this accumulated material is not removed quickly, it can become concentrated and harden into pale, irritating tonsil stones.

Tonsil stones formation is closely associated with the size and depth of a person’s tonsillar crypts. For example, individuals who suffer from chronic inflammation of their tonsils (known as tonsillitis) are the most likely to develop tonsil stones. Researchers suspect that this is related to the tonsils’ increased size and the infection’s exacerbation of the tonsillar crypts.

Although not all people with tonsil stones experience symptoms, the formation of tonsil stones is also associated with discomfort and bad breath in some cases.

According to a study from 2007 at the State University of Campinas in Brazil, tonsil stones formation were detected in 75% of tonsillitis patients who complained of bad breath, as opposed to 6% of patients with normal breath.

Most individuals who have tonsil stones formation, however, may not experience noticeable symptoms, and therefore may only discover their condition once several stones become dislodged in their mouth.

Although many people develop small tonsil stones frequently, only a few patients have large and fully hardened tonsil stones. If you suspect you may be experiencing tonsil stones or that your tonsils may be enlarged and at risk for further issues, see your doctor. He or she can conduct a physical exam and may recommend that you visit an ear, nose, and throat specialist for further evaluation and treatment.

Why Valerian Root Can Really Improve Your Sleep Easily?

Why Valerian Root Can Really Improve Your Sleep Easily? If you are looking to improve your sleep easily, here is the best alternative to sleeping pills.

Valerian, a flowering plant native to Europe and Asia, has been valued for its mild sedative properties since ancient times. Hippocrates was among those who described its therapeutic uses, and it was prescribed for insomnia as early as the 2nd century.

It’s thought that insomnia impacts your brain and nervous system, and may increase the amount of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter known for its inhibitory effect on nerves, essentially helping them to calm down.

Some anxiety medications and hypnotics like Ambien and Lunesta actually work by increasing GABA activity.  Valerian may have a similar, though somewhat weaker, effect.

In fact, Germany’s Commission E (the country’s regulatory agency for herbs) has approved valerian as a mild sedative.

Valerian is a Popular Alternative to Sleeping Pills and Can Improve Your Sleep Easily

Sleeping pills are notorious for their side effects and addictive potential, which is why many people prefer Valerian as an alternative. Research suggests the herb is useful for various sleep disorders, helping people to both fall asleep faster and have a better sleep quality.

For instance:

  • A combination of Valerian and hops was found to reduce sleep latency (the time it takes you to fall asleep) significantly compared to a placebo.

  • Valerian extract worked as well as the drug oxazepam (a drug in the same category as Valium and Xanax) in treating insomnia for six weeks.

  • In those taking a valerian preparation, 44 percent reported perfect sleep and 89 percent reported improved sleep — no side effects were reported.

  • Valerian relieved both stress and insomnia in people who took it for six weeks.

  • A meta-analysis of 16 studies found that Valerian might improve sleep quality without producing side effects.

Further, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center:

“One of the best designed studies found that valerian was no more effective than placebo for 14 days, but by 28 days valerian greatly improved sleep for those who were taking it.

Some researchers now think you may need to take valerian for a few weeks before it begins to work. However, in another study, valerian was more effective than placebo almost immediately.

Other studies show that valerian reduces the time it takes to fall asleep and improves the quality of sleep itself. Unlike many prescription sleeping pills, valerian may have fewer side effects, such as morning drowsiness.”

In short, there’s a reason why people have been using Valerian to help them settle their nerves and sleep well since the beginnings of time … it works!

Valerian’s Other Uses (Anti-Anxiety and Much More)

While most widely known for its role in sleep support, Valerian also shows promise for anxiety relief. One study found no significant differences between Valerian and diazepam (Valium), and it’s been found that Valerian’s anti-anxiety action is due to its action on GABA receptors.

Valerian has many other traditional uses as well, including for depression, tremors, epilepsy, muscle and joint pain, menstrual cramps, chronic fatigue syndrome, nervous asthma and ADHD.

It’s even been found to improve the symptoms of restless leg syndrome, including decreasing daytime sleepiness.

In fact, in addition to its sedative properties, Valerian also has the following characteristics:

  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-hypertensive
  • Anti-coronaryspastic
  • Anti-bronchospastic
  • Anti-spasmodic
  • Anti-convulsive

Valerian is One of the 10 Ingredients in Sleepzyme that you can use to Improve Your Sleep Easily

If you’re having trouble sleeping, we probably don’t need to tell you that it’s important to address the problem, fast. This isn’t only a matter of having energy, either.

Lack of sleep is linked to serious diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart disease, depression, immune system trouble and even weight gain and obesity.

This means that if you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re at an increased risk of acute illnesses like colds and flu and potentially deadly chronic diseases.

First, make sure that an external issue — like pets in your bed or medications you’re taking — aren’t responsible for disturbing your sleep.

If that’s not the problem, you might consider a Valerian supplement, considering it’s been used as a natural (and safe) tranquilizer for centuries. But why stop there?

Sleepzyme contains 150 milligrams (mg) of Valerian plus nine other proven, all-natural sleep aids. This includes:

  1. Magnesium citrateto boost and activate your ‘sleep hormone’ (melatonin)

  1. GABA, which improves your most vital state of sleep (the delta phase)

  1. 5-HTTPto help your body make serotonin and melatonin

  1. Inositol, which helps you stay asleep longer and have fewer bad dreams

  1. L-Theanine, which helps you relax and fall asleep with ease

  1. Lemon balm leafto reduce anxiety and improve sleep

  1. Hops flower, which contains a naturally occurring sedative

  1. Passion flower, which is also recognized as an herbal sedative

  1. Melatoninto help regulate your sleep cycle (i.e. your circadian rhythm)

It also contains a special blend of enzymes uniquely formulated to improve the effectiveness of the botanical ingredients. If you’re serious about getting proper sleep, there’s no better solution on the market.

Sleepzyme is mother-nature-approved. It’s all natural, non-addictive and has no negative side effects. Just take 3 capsules approximately one hour before bed each night with an 8 oz. glass of water.

You should experience noticeable improvements in your sleep quality starting the very first night! The sooner you get your first bottle, the sooner you can rest easy.

It’s common to feel anxious or irritated if you’re hungry. Low blood sugar rushing, dehydration and a rumbling tummy make everyone a little less pleasant than normal.

But if you’ve ever felt angry or anxious after you eat, it could mean your body is reacting negatively to what you ate.

Several common foods and additives are known to promote anxiety and depression symptoms, and even anger. Which one could be causing your after-meal mood swing?

Anxiety Disorder-Causing Foods #1 – Sugar

Sugar is one of the most common causes of irritation after eating. In one survey of 200 people, 80% said sugar was a considerable “stressor” on their mental health. Stabilizing your blood sugar can greatly benefit your health in the long run… and benefit your moods in the nearer future.

Anxiety Disorder-Causing Foods #2 – Caffeine

One study of 95 people showed that doses up to 400mg of caffeine increased anxiousness, tenseness and nervousness. Of course, if you’ve ever been on the wrong end of a caffeine crash, you don’t need science to tell you how it makes you jittery and irritable.

Anxiety Disorder-Causing Foods #3 – Casein

Casein is the major component in mammalian milk – especially cow’s milk. It has been causally related to multiple mood disorders, including bipolar and autism, because of the inflammation and allergic reactions it causes.

Anxiety Disorder-Causing Foods #4 – Aspartame

Aspartame is an artificial, non-saccharide sweetener used as a sugar substitute in some foods and beverages. Aspartame is 50% phenylalaline – a chemical defined as a neurotoxin by the Suicide and Mental Health Association.

Neurotoxins are responsible for directly impeding the release of neurotransmitters – specifically the “feel good” brain chemical serotonin. Depleted levels of serotonin can leave you feeling depressed. (Scientists have known about this interaction since 1987!)

Another study also showed that aspartame impaired memory performance and increased oxidative stress on the brain – something else that could get you frustrated pretty easily.

Anxiety Disorder-Causing Foods #5 – Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

MSG is a known “excitotoxin,” meaning it causes brain cells to fire so rapidly they burn themselves out within hours of exposure. A bad headache is only one symptom of this toxic flavoring agent.

According to Dr. Russell Blaylock, one of the foremost experts on excitotoxins, “Exposure to excitotoxins could produce a whole array… of emotional problems including episodic anger and sexual psycho-pathology.”

Anxiety Disorder-Causing Foods #6 – Gluten

Even if you don’t have Celiac disease or a diagnosed gluten intolerance, this sneaky little protein found in wheat, barley, rye and spelt can be a serious mood buster.

According to Danna Korn, author of Living Gluten-Free for Dummies, “Gluten is sometimes behind the scenes wreaking havoc on behavior and moods. ‘Fuzzy brain’ or an inability to concentrate . . . irritability and lack of motivation can be caused by gluten.”

How to Overcome Anxiety Disorder Quickly and Naturally

Eat Foods That Contain L-Tryptophan

One of the many reasons we feel so good around the holidays is because the foods we eat (in heftier-than-normal portions) are high in l-tryptophan.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that produces the neurotransmitters melatonin (the one that makes you sleepy) and serotonin (the one that makes you feel good.)

  • Meat. Game meats like elk, buffalo and caribou have the highest concentration of l-tryptophan, with 400-750mg per 200 calorie serving. Turkey and chicken offer between 400 and 500mg while beef contains 270 — 430mg per 200 calories.

  • Fish. Tuna has the highest concentration with 380mg in a 4oz serving. Also high on the trypto-scale are salmon, halibut, shrimp, cod and sardines between 250 and 350mg per 4oz serving.

You can also find supplements with tryptophan or 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan). Speaking of supplements…

Try These Supplements

There are a variety of supplements available that can increase your sense of “feeling good” naturally. These can help boost your mood, increasing your overall sense of wellbeing and lifting your energy.

GABA, the neurotransmitter responsible for alert relaxation, can help you “get back in the zone” after a lunch break.

L-Theanine. You can also get your GABA and l-theanine by drinking more tea – also helpful if you’re trying to reduce your caffeine intake but still need a jump in the morning.

Omega-3s. Your brain and nervous system are mostly made up of fat, and therefore need healthy fats to function properly – including mood regulation.

Omega-3s, especially EPA, have been shown to reduce pessimism, feelings of sadness, inability to work, sleeplessness and low libido by up to 50%. You can also get more EPA by increasing the amount of seafood, nuts and leafy greens in your diet.

Vitamin B. If you’ve taken certain “natural energy shots,” you know that complexes of vitamin B and single supplements of B12 are especially helpful for boosting mood, energy and focus.

A recent study agreed – B vitamins “improve mood symptoms and mental health quality of life in adults with depression.”

Trigger Point Therapy

When you’re angry or anxious, your entire body is affected. Your muscles tighten and shorten as part of the stress response. These overworked muscles often develop miniature knots in the muscle fibers… and refuse to release.

Known as trigger points, these muscle knots are notorious for referred pain – meaning they can cause pain in an area of your body distant from the actual trigger point.

Research shows trigger points may be the primary cause of actual pain 75% of the time – and a factor in virtually every painful condition.

Trigger points were discovered to be a major contributor to John F. Kennedy’s chronic back pain – until he found relief by treating the trigger points. In fact, he credited their relief to his ability to run for President.

Relieving trigger points used to mean expensive visits to a knowledgeable clinical practitioner or specially trained masseuse. But now you can find and relieve your own hidden trigger points throughout your body… thanks to a simple system you can find right here at the Healthy Back Institute.

I personally use and recommend the Trigger Point Therapy Self-Treatment System. It’s so easy to use, you literally get relief just by lying down, making it one of the most effective and inexpensive ways to treat stress- and emotion-related pain.
