A meta-analysis of nine studies revealed no significant differences between men and women in terms of the eye’s ability to focus on objects close up. This suggested that another factor was to blame for why women tended to need reading glasses sooner.

 

The culprit? Researcher suggested that women, who generally have shorter arms than men, tend to hold their reading materials closer than men, a habit that, over time, may play a role in the eyes’ loss of focusing ability.

 

It could be that making an effort to hold your reading material farther away might have an impact on your vision in your golden years, although this has yet to be studied.
