Discover a Whole New Take in Treating Eczema

Though we still have to find out what is the exact composition of gut balance, research has shown that it is primarily made up of great amounts of good bacteria such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus and few potential pathogens.

Gut bacterial balance is important especially among infants because it is said to protect them from atopic childhood diseases such as asthma, eczema, and allergies.

Important Role of Gut Bacterial Balance

In fact, a study recently published in the journal BioMed Central Microbiology, which compared the gut bacterial composition of children with eczema to that of healthy children ages 6 months and 18 months, seemed to reveal that gut balance can play an important role in treating eczema.

Samples of the children’s faeces were taken when they were 6 and 18 months old, respectively. At 6 months, the gut bacteria composition of children with or without eczema was essentially the same. However, when they reached 18 months, the gut bacteria composition of children with eczema was more closely associated with those of adults.

Particularly, there was higher diversity of gut bacteria, while there was an increase in the Clostridium species. The gut bacteria of healthy children, however, contained three times more amounts of Bacteroidetes.

Role of Breastfeeding

Scientists attribute the normal amounts of gut bacteria among children with eczema at 6 months to breastfeeding, which probably protected them through the earlier stages of their lives.

According to them, breast feeding might have possibly served as eczema treatment by “evening up the microbiota differences between the healthy and eczematous children and masked the eczema-associated changes, which came apparent at 18 months of age after withdrawal of breast-milk.”

If the children had kept on drinking milk, they could have benefited from the eczema treatment-like properties of breastfeeding. Scientists also add that the presence of adult bacteria in the children’s guts may be attributed to the fact that the children’s diets have changed.

Balancing the Intestinal Flora for Treating Eczema

If you are looking for viable eczema treatment, focus on healing the skin from within. This means fortifying the body’s immune system and eating healthy. Here are some things you can do:

  1. Go Herbal. Instead of hitting the drugstore and buying steroid-based eczema treatment, try herbal products. There are herbs that are essentially drugs that work wonders in controlling eczema flare-ups. However, be sure to conduct eczema treatment under the guidance of a health professional.

  1. Eat Smart.Veer away from processed food products and instead make sure your diet consists of whole and natural foods that include meat proteins. Eliminate refined sugar and alcohol. By sticking to a healthy diet, it will be easier for your digestive system to perform its job in breaking down food and re-establish the normal gut flora.

  1. Supplement with Probiotics. As you may have already known, probiotics are highly beneficial bacteria in the gut. Taking in probiotic supplement can help replenish the population of good bacteria. It also works to ferment the dietary fiber and produce sort chained fatty acids that are also vital for health and integrity of the colon.

What Are The Best Probiotics for Lowering Blood Pressure?

What Are The Best Probiotics for Lowering Blood Pressure? Probiotics may help in lowering blood pressure, especially among people with hypertension. Read on to discover the other health benefits of probiotics

Beneficial bacteria known as probiotics are most often discussed in relation to your digestive health, but they do so much more than enhance digestion.

Your body has about 10 times more bacteria than cells, and those bacteria are part of your “microbiome.”

Your microbiome is composed of trillions of microbes, which include not only bacteria but also fungi, viruses and other organisms that are too small to be seen with the naked eye.

Do you want to know something astonishing?

Each of your microbial cells contains a unique set of genes, which helps to explain why your microbiome plays such an integral role in your health.

In fact, your microbiome is so important that the American Academy of Microbioloy (AAM) believes it is “reasonable to characterize the microbiome as a newly recognized organ, with a great range of metabolic activities.”

Your microbiome is a dynamic community that changes in response to your diet and other environmental exposure.

Generally speaking, you are primarily a microbial being. When you begin to understand this, it becomes quite easy to understand how probiotics might influence an aspect of your health like blood pressure, which might, on the surface, appear to be unrelated. AAM reported:

“A corollary of the fact that human health depends on maintaining a good relationship with a complex set of microbes is the recognition that microbes can contribute to disease in previously unexpected ways.

Many human diseases in which microbes were not previously thought to play a role have recently been shown, largely in animal models, to be at least partially influenced by the microbiome.

Diseases as different as asthma, diabetes, obesity, cancer, and heart disease have been shown to be influenced by the microbiome.

In mice, there are even intriguing, if very preliminary, indications that the microbiome may play a role in conditions like anxiety and insomnia.”

How Do Probiotics Help in Lowering Blood Pressure?

A new review of nine studies found that probiotics may help in lowering blood pressure, especially among people with hypertension.

Specifically, compared to those who didn’t consume probiotics, those who consumed probiotics lowered systolic blood pressure (the top number) by an average 3.56 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) and diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) by an average 2.38 mm Hg.

The research further revealed:

  • The beneficial effect on blood pressure only occurred in those who consumed probiotics for eight weeks or more

  • Diastolic blood pressure levels decreased the most among those whose blood pressure was elevated (equal to or greater than 130/85)

  • Multiple-strain probiotics do more in lowering blood pressure than single-strain probiotics

  • Only probiotics with 100 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) or more resulted in the beneficial effects on blood pressure

The study’s lead author noted:

“The small collection of studies we looked at suggest regular consumption of probiotics can be part of a healthy lifestyle to help reduce high blood pressure, as well as maintain healthy blood pressure levels … This includes probiotics in yogurt, fermented and sour milk [kefir] and cheese, and probiotic supplements.”

Besides Lowering Blood Pressure What are the Other Health Benefits of Probiotics?

These good ‘bugs’ may benefit your blood pressure and your digestion … and what else? Quite a bit, actually, as they influence the health of your microbiome, which, in turn, impacts your health overall. For instance:

  • Your Brain:Women who regularly ate beneficial bacteria via yogurt had altered brain function, with the probiotics appearing to influence multiple areas of the brain, including those involved in sensory processing, cognition and emotion.

  • Your Mood:Probiotics have also been shown to normalize anxiety-like behavior in mice, as well as influence GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter in your brain.

By activating GABA, which has a calming effect, as well as lowering stress hormones like corticosterone, probiotics have been found to potentially improve both anxiety and depression.

  • Colds and Other Infections:Probiotics have been found to help prevent upper respiratory tract infections, including the common cold, as well as possibly reduce the prescription of antibiotics.

  • Your Weight:Women who took a probiotic supplement along with following a weight-loss diet lost more weight than women who did not (9.7 pounds versus 5.7 pounds, respectively).

Woman taking probiotics also continued to lose another 1.8 pounds after the 12-week maintenance period, as well as reduced intestinal bacteria related to obesity.

What are The Best Probiotics?

You may eat a yogurt here and there, but unless you’re consuming decent quantities of traditionally fermented foods (such as homemade sauerkraut or kefir) daily, you’re most likely not replenishing your body’s supply.

Probiotic supplements are, fortunately, widely available, although there are key traits you should look for to find an effective brand.

After much research, we chose a multiple-strain Danisco® Probiotic Blend, which contains both bifidobacterium and acidophilus made by one of the most trusted companies in the field, to be a part of our 30-day colon flush and revitalization program, Natural Cleanse.

Grey Hair Problem: Other Conditions That Affect Hair Colour

Dying is not always a safe or damage free solution to your grey hair problem as these hair dyes contains several strong chemicals that can increase the risk of getting cancer. Read on more to discover a safer way to reverse your grey hair.

There are many conditions that affect hair colour. Vitiligo is a condition that causes depigmentation of hair and parts of the skin. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for the colour of the skin and hair, die or are unable to function.

Albinism is another condition, which is not very common, but which can result in little or no colour (pigment) in the hair, causing the hair to be sometimes either pure white or very, very pale shade of blond.

Malnutrition is another factor that can affect your hair quality, causing sparse growth of hair and hair which is significantly lighter in colour. This is because malnutrition has direct relationship to melanin production. A malnourished person cannot produce enough of melanin, resulting in your hair being a good deal lighter than a normal person’s.

Malnourishment can be also due to excessive dieting or undergoing the wrong kinds of diet. This is the kind of mistake that most overweight people make.

Another main factor that can cause grey hair problem is smoking. Many studies have discovered that a smoker has a much higher probability of having his/her hair turning grey prematurely than a non-smoker. Smoking can make you look older than your actual age.

For people with grey hair problem, they can choose among the wide selections of hair colouring products available in the market, which can be roughly divided into bleaches and dyes.

Hair dying is not a recent inclination but it has been continued from the past. It has been done for centuries by both men and women especially to cover up grey hair but now it is popular with the fashion fanatics. Hair dye is not only used to cover the grey hair but also to give oneself a new look.

Hair dyes are available as Permanent and Semi-permanent. A permanent dye stays for long on your hair and will not wash out due to several washing.

The semi-permanent dyes are not so strong and will diminish with few wash (rarely lasts more than 3 weeks) because they do not contain strong chemicals and these chemicals do not enter your hair. They are available in as a liquid, gel or foam and can generally be applied directly to the hair without any mixing.

Although the effects of dying hair with semi-permanent dye are equal when it comes to colour, but care should be taken when you are out that you do not forget to take your umbrella with you.

In case if it is a rainy season or weather and it starts raining then you can face an embarrassing situation of getting your dye washed away with rain water rolling down your cheek over your shoulder and showing your grey hair again. This is one downside of semi-permanent hair dye but there is one positive side is that it causes less damage to the hair.

Permanent hair dye on the other hand usually consist of a package containing two bottles-one contains hydrogen peroxide solution and the other contains the dye dissolve in ammonia and  a small bottle or sachet of conditioning cream for use after the dying treatment.

When the contents of the two bottles are mixed well they act as a permanent dye that when applied on hair causes the hair to swell making the particles to open and separate and enabling the hair absorb the hair dye solution and change the colour of the hair. This process takes half an hour to 45 minutes which is then followed by rinsing and conditioning.

However it should be kept in mind that dying is not always a safe or damage free solution to your grey hair problem as these hair dyes contains several strong chemicals that can increase the risk of getting cancer.

Perhaps you may not be aware of it, but hair dye does not fall under the strict medical condition controls that most other products are subjected to.

For example, if you use a face cream, that face cream has to meet stringent requirements by the Food and Drug Administration, whereas a hair dye does not have to meet many of those stringent requirements, which means there may be a great many more harmful products that it could be found in most of the other products that you use.

This is the main reason why many hair dyes can be risky to use and why there is an actual link between increased cancer risk and hair dye products.

One thing you may not know is many hair dyes on the market today use derivatives of coal tar and other petroleum products as their main ingredients and that these ingredients can actually provoke severe allergic reaction in many people.

Though hair dye is an attractive option, I would really suggest that you explore other options before you go and dye your hair. Remember that greying hair is more than just a genetic symptom, but also a symptom of unhealthy lifestyle or too much stress in your daily life, or simply a sign that your body is malnourished or due to insufficient exercise.
