In general, 24.8 percent of the subjects with erectile dysfunction reported work productivity impairment, while only 11.2 percent of those without erectile dysfunction struggled with the same issue.

 

During other, non-work-related activities, 24.8 percent of men with erectile dysfunction versus 14.5 percent of men without erectile dysfunction reported productivity difficulties.

 

While men without erectile dysfunction reported having missed three percent of their work time in the previous week because of absenteeism, men with erectile dysfunction had been absent for seven percent of the time.

 

Reporting to work while being sick had led to impaired performance of more than 22 percent of men with erectile dysfunction and 10 percent of men without erectile dysfunction.

 

Erectile dysfunction sufferers also experienced a significantly lower health-related quality of life. This was assessed via two questionnaires, called the Mental Component Summary and the Physical Component Summary.

 

Men with erectile dysfunction scored around five points lower than men without erectile dysfunction on both these questionnaires.

 

Those with the most severe erectile dysfunction were the most likely to be unproductive, absent from work, and struggling with a poor quality of life.

 

Predictably, men with erectile dysfunction were also more likely to be older, obese, physically inactive, smokers, and heavy drinkers.

To be precise, those with the highest concussion scores were 2.39 times more likely to have low testosterone and 72 percent more likely to have ED than those who reported the fewest concussion symptoms.

 

Those who reported a loss of consciousness around the time of their head injury were most at risk, even in the absence of other concussion symptoms.

 

The ED was found in both young and middle-aged former players and among both those who had stopped playing 20 years ago and those who had quit recently.

The scientists collected saliva samples to examine their participant’s testosterone levels, including data such as their height, weight, age of puberty, and other health information from which normal ED studies have excluded.

 

While testosterone levels were in no way related to their ethnicity, it was a reflection of their surroundings during their childhood.

 

Those who were raised in the UK, of both of European and Bangladeshi heritage, had higher testosterone levels than those who grew up in Bangladesh.

 

Money was irrelevant here, as they had compared Bangladeshi residents who were relatively financially well-off with the British residents.

 

Those who grew up in the UK were also taller and reached puberty earlier than those who grew up in Bangladesh.

 

Good testosterone level could only develop where there are no other major demands placed on the body, like the combating of infections.

The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, showed that variations in a gene called SIM1 increased the risk of ED by a scary 26%.

The interesting part is that the SIM1 is not connected to the body-mass index, heart diseases, low testosterone or any other secondhand factors that could lead to erectile dysfunction.

The scientists involved in the new study tried for more than one year to repair the man’s retina, without any success.

When examining his retina with state-of-the-art technology, they were able to see physical damage at the cellular level that was similar to retinal diseases, like retinitis pigmentosa and cone-rod dystrophy.

 

Both of these diseases can cause complete blindness, as they would wipe out the cells that perceive light and those that perceive color.

Now, it is important to remember that this man did not take the physical Viagra pill, but its active ingredient in liquid form. Furthermore, he did not take the recommended dose, but a rather large overdose.

 

However, as the researchers warned, people often think that a lot of something might work if a little of it fails to work which often steers people into administering a drug overdose.

The conclusion? Men who consumed 85-170 mg of caffeine per day are 42% less likely than non-drinkers to suffer erectile dysfunction, while those who consume 171-303 mg of it were 39% less likely than non-drinkers to have erectile problems.

 

This conclusion holds only for overweight, obese, and hypertensive men. However, the effects of type 2 diabetes on ED is too strong for caffeine to counteract.

Notice that more was not necessarily better. So, limit your caffeine consumption to 170 mg of caffeine or it may create other health issues.
