The palatine tonsils are two small masses of soft, lymphatic tissue that are located on either side of the back of the tongue at the rear of the throat.

Each of these tonsils is covered by pink mucosa that is covered by small channels called crypts. The tonsils function as part of the immune system, defending the mouth, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract from infectious agents.

Sometimes, however, the tonsils themselves may become infected and swollen. When this happens, the condition is referred to as tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis usually occurs as the result of a virus or a bacterial infection; less frequently, tonsillitis may also be caused by fungal or parasitic infections as well.

As a result, individuals who develop tonsillitis generally experience symptoms such as a sore throat, swollen tonsils, a fever, difficulty swallowing, a headache, and voice loss. This condition is highly contagious and may be spread easily to others through contact and body fluids.

In contrast, tonsil stones are small, whitish blobs that become lodged in the crypts of the tonsils.

Tonsil stones, or tonsilloliths, occur when accumulated debris, mucus, and microorganisms hardens into tiny masses. This condition involves symptoms like bad breath, a sore throat, difficulty swallowing, earaches, and visible white debris at the back of the throat.

Although both tonsillitis and tonsil stones involve tonsils that are swollen, red, and have white patches, the two conditions are not interchangeable.

The inflammation is similar in both conditions, which leads to similar effects like a sore throat, painful swallowing, and white marks at the back of the throat.

However, for people with tonsillitis, the white marks on the tonsils are due to pus. For those with tonsil stones, the white marks on the tonsils are the stones themselves.

Additionally, individuals who experience chronic tonsillitis have a high risk of developing tonsil stones, as repeated inflammation in the tonsils can facilitate the accumulation of debris.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should see your doctor. He or she can determine the cause of your problem and can suggest treatments to reduce your symptoms, such as gargles, antibiotics, steroids, or even the surgical removal of the affected areas on your tonsils.

Eczema is a generic term that is used to generally refer to a number of skin inflammation brought about by excessive sensitivity to certain allergens such as certain types of food, pollens, chemicals, dust mites, dander and molds, among others.

While there is no definite understanding as to the real underlying cause of eczema, it is widely believed that it is mainly brought about by the over reaction of the immune system in responding to what is detected as an allergen attack.

Eczema is known to attack people of every age, gender and nationalities. In addition, it can appear in any part of the body, although it is typically seen on legs and arms, forehead, cheeks, ears as well as any body part with skin folds such as the elbows and the back of the knees. While eczema presents a less than desirable skin condition, it is not contagious in nature.

How Essential Oils for Eczema Help?

There are a number of essential oils for eczema that can effectively alleviate the itchiness, inflammation and pain that is associated with eczema.

In addition, there are oils derived from herbs that exhibit cytophylactic properties which is known to aid in skin cell rejuvenation. Among the highly recommended oils include neroli, helichrysum, lavender and rose otto.

In addition, the German and Roman chamomile along with yarrow oils are most effective for the reduction of the inflammation and is also known to soothe the sore patches of the skin. It is recommended that at least one of these oils should be included in any essential oil blends.

However, it is important to keep in mind that the Roman and German chamomile is known to be very powerful so only a tiny amount should be added. Furthermore, none of the aforementioned oils should go over 25% of your formula. This is because, when it comes to dealing with essential oils, less is definitely more.

Other Oils for Eczema

Other equally important and recommended oils are those from coconut, St. John’s Wort, calendula, evening primrose, as well as the rosehip carrier oils – all of which are known to provide soothing relief for overly dry and patchy skin.

If only a small portion of your body is affected with eczema, then make sure to only apply small amounts on the affected area before bedroom in order to avoid the clothes from chafing the skin.

There are also hypoallergenic lotions that contain essential oils, which present a good combination of moisturizing the skin and providing relief with the oils’ healing properties. Among the more popular healing botanicals used by skin products nowadays include the rose mallow and the goldenrod.

Dealing with Stress

As many already know, stress is a major contributing factor to eczema. A condition can easily escalate to a severe one when a person especially when dealing with highly stressful situations. If you are facing such predicament, then you can also use essential oils as a good eczema treatment for combating stress.

Health Warnings – What is Actually in a Hot Dog?

Health Warnings - What is Actually in a Hot Dog? There is no doubt that Americans love a good hot dog. But what you can find in a hot dog can make you throw up. Read this 1st before you are going to eat a hot dog.
Click HERE If You Are Interested in Getting Healthy or Living a More Natural Life

The average American eats … wait for it … 70 hot dogs a year. This is according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC), which also noted that 95 percent of U.S. households serve hot dogs.

There’s no doubt that Americans love a good hot dog. Heck, they’re as American as apple pie and white picket fences. Every region even has its own special version.

In New York (where more hot dogs are consumed than anywhere else in the U.S.), hot dogs are served with steamed onions and dry yellow mustard.

Chicago dogs are more complicated, served with “yellow mustard, dark green relish, chopped raw onion, pickle spear, sport peppers, tomato slices and topped with a dash of celery salt and served in a poppy seed bun,” according to NHDSC.

In the South, meanwhile, you’ll find hot dogs topped with coleslaw while other regions prefer dogs topped with chili or sauerkraut.

But, be honest. Although you might think carefully about what to put on top of your dog, you probably don’t give much thought to what’s in it because, well, you’re afraid of what you might find out. (If you really don’t want to know, now’s the time to cover your eyes).

“Meat Batter” on a Bun

Hot dogs fall into the category of “emulsion-type sausages,” which are generally made from finely chopped meat, fatty tissue and water or ice.

However, according to The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in the case of hot dogs “the term meat “batter” instead of meat “emulsion” might be better.”

Hot dogs are made from meat trimmings (typically beef or pork but also poultry). These are the parts left over after the more desirable cuts, like steaks and roasts, are removed.

In high-quality dogs, the bulk of the hot dog will be made from meat – look for terms like all-beef, grass-fed and organic on the label.

But what about those cheaper lower-quality dogs? A small amount of pork, mechanically separated poultry, corn syrup solids, preservatives, soy and milk solids – all are fair game.

As the Daily Mail put it, here’s what you might see if you visited a hot-dog factory:

“In vast metal vats, tons of pork trimmings are mixed with the pink slurry formed when chicken carcasses are squeezed through metal grates and blasted with water.

The mush is mixed with powdered preservatives, flavorings, red coloring and drenched in water before being squeezed into plastic tubes to be cooked and packaged. It is a disgusting process, for the hot dog is arguably the ultimate in processed, industrial food.”

Many hot dogs contain less than 50 percent ‘regular’ meat and the rest:

  • Mechanically separated meat
  • Water (no more than 10 percent)
  • Fillers like corn starch, maltodextrin, cereal grains and corn syrup (up to 3.5 percent)
  • Salt
  • Preservatives
  • Flavorings (which don’t have to be disclosed)
  • Casings (natural casings are animal intestines)

You might be able to get past meat trimmings, mechanically separated meat and preservatives, but can you get past this …

Watch this Video HERE about how a hot dog is being made.

2 Percent of Hot Dogs May Contain Human DNA … and Your Veggie Dog May Contain Meat

Clear Food genetically tested 345 hot dog samples from 75 brands. Their tests revealed problems such as label inaccuracies or hygiene issues, in more than 14 percent of the dogs.

Perhaps worst of all, 2 percent of the hot dogs contained traces of human DNA. Vegetarian hot dogs accounted for two-thirds of the “human DNA dogs,” and 10 percent of the veggie dogs also contained meat.

Other products contained types of meat that were not listed on the label, such as pork in a supposedly pork-free hot dog, or did not contain all the ingredients listed on the label.

If you’re still looking to chow down on hot dogs, there’s more bad news. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) recently classified processed meat as a carcinogen.

Hot dogs are the poster-child for processed meats. IARC reviewed more than 800 studies to make the cancer determination and revealed that eating 50 grams of processed meat daily (that’s the equivalent of one hot dog) increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 18 percent.

If you only eat hot dogs occasionally, you probably don’t need to worry. But if hot dogs are one of your go-to staples, cutting back may be a good idea. And while you’re at it, do your digestive tract a favor and take 30 days to detox and flush out some of those toxins you’ve accumulated.

Revealing Here are 5 Most Unhealthy Cancer-Causing Foods - A recent Nature study revealed that up to 90 percent of cancer cases are caused by extrinsic factors, including your diet which may contain unhealthy cancer-causing foods. Here are 5 foods you should avoid if you want to reduce your cancer risk

A recent Nature study revealed that up to 90 percent of cancer cases are caused by extrinsic factors, including your diet which may contain unhealthy cancer-causing foods.

As you may well be aware, focusing your diet on healthy foods like fresh vegetables, fruits and healthy sources of protein (grass-fed meat, wild-caught fish, beans, nuts, seeds, avocado, etc.) may help lower your risk of chronic diseases like cancer.

On the other hand, a diet based on processed foods may increase your cancer risk. But this is a rather vague definition, isn’t it?

If you want to know what are the unhealthy cancer-causing foods that really increase your cancer risk, read below.

The unhealthy cancer-causing foods that follow are the worst of the worst when it comes to cancer.

  1. Processed Meats

The World Health Organization’s) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) recently classified processed meats as a Group 1 carcinogen, the same category as tobacco smoke and asbestos.

This means “there is convincing evidence that the agent causes cancer,” and IARC’s determination was based on evidence showing that eating processed meat causes colorectal cancer.

Processed meats, according to WHO, refer to “meat that has been transformed through salting, curing, fermentation, smoking, or other processes to enhance flavor or improve preservation.” This includes hot dogs, ham, sausages, beef jerky, corned beef, canned meat and more.

  1. Potato Chips and French Fries

These two “food groups” have been found to contain higher levels of acrylamide than other foods. Acrylamide is formed when the amino acid asparagine, which is found in high concentrations in some potatoes, is heated to high temperatures (above 248 degrees F) in the presence of certain sugars.

IARC considers acrylamide a “probable human carcinogen” and animal studies have linked it to several types of cancer.

  1. Soda

Dark-colored sodas often contain 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI), which is formed during the manufacture of caramel color. 4-MEI is a potential carcinogen and a Consumer Reports study found most soda contain 3.4 micrograms to 352.5 micrograms of 4-MEI per 12-ounce can.

According to research published in PLOS One, routine consumption of certain [soda] beverages can result in 4-MEI exposures > 29 μg/day, the level at which the state of California requires products to carry cancer warning labels. Soda is also high in sugar (see below).

  1. Excess Sugar

Sugars in your intestines cause cells to release GIP, a hormone that enhances insulin release. Your cells’ ability to release GIP is controlled by β-catenin, a protein whose activity is dependent on sugar levels.

Increased β-catenin activity, in turn, is associated with cancer development and may make cancer cells immortal, leading to cancer progression.

As reported by Science Daily:

“The study demonstrates that high (but not normal) sugar levels induce nuclear accumulation of β-catenin and leads to cell proliferation. The changes induced on β-catenin, the molecules involved and the diversity of cancer cells susceptible to these changes are identified.

[Study author] Dr. [Custodia] Custodia García said “We were surprised to realize that changes in our metabolism caused by dietary sugar impact on our cancer risk … Changing diet is one of easiest prevention strategies that can potentially save a lot of suffering and money.”

  1. Meats Cooked at High Temperatures

When meat is cooked at high temperatures, such as fried or barbecued,  it may contain high levels of heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

When HCAs and PAHs become activated by certain enzymes in your body (which differ among individuals) they become capable of damaging DNA and potentially causing cancer. Consumption of such meats is associated with increased risks of colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate cancer.

I’ve covered some of the foods you should avoid eating, so what are the foods you should eat? Here are seven of the best foods you can eat (especially if you’re over 50).

If you’ve been feasting on any of the foods on this list, it may be time for a detox with Natural Cleanse. This 30-day colon flush and revitalization program contains a proprietary probiotic blend to nourish your gut bacteria along with buckthorn bark and rhubarb root, both of which contain beneficial anthraquinones.

Plus, they’re combined with several other gentle yet effective compounds for colon health, including licorice root, cloves, ginger, fiber-rich psyllium husk and more to help remove the junk that, after years of unhealthy eating, may have accumulated in your colon.

Do you know that a cancerous cell is acidic? If your body is in a constant state of over-acidification, it becomes impossible for healthy cells to regenerate.

Cancer cells thrive in an overly acidic environment. By taking action to become more alkaline, you can make it more difficult for cancer cells to regenerate.

Eating an acid/alkaline balanced diet is the key to staying healthy. Understanding the pH of the foods that you eat is relative to the state of your body’s health.

The goal of the acid alkaline balance diet, also known as the alkaline diet and the alkaline ash diet, is to achieve an optimal balance between acid-forming and alkaline-forming foods.

The anti-cancer alkaline diet greatly reduces the strain on the body’s acid-detoxification systems.

Detailed information about this diet can be found in the anti-cancer alkaline diet book: The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet

We’ve just passed one of the biggest “candy” days of the year in the United States – Halloween. But even if you managed to dodge that diet-wrecking bullet, get ready for more coming your way.

The winter holiday season is upon us … complete with peppermint bark, chocolates, and candy canes (1.8 billion candy canes are made each season).

Once the season’s sweets are behind us, up comes Valentine’s Day … Easter (Easter candy sales make up 28 percent of total U.S. candy sales each year) … and the list goes on and on.

Not to imply that holidays are the only days Americans eat candy … 50 percent of Americans surveyed (and 55 percent of those with kids in the house) said they eat 10 or more servings of candy each month.

You’re probably aware that candy isn’t healthy … but if you’ve got a sweet tooth you give in to more than you’d like to admit, you should know that some candy might be worse than others.

The sweets that follow are among the worst, unhealthiest candies on the market.

7 Unhealthiest Candies

  1. Sour Patch Kids

The first three ingredients are sugar, invert sugar (a glucose/fructose mix) and corn syrup, which explains why just 16 of these little pieces have 26 grams of sugar

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends adults consume just 25 grams of sugar – or less – a day.

Artificial flavors and four types of artificial colors round out this candy’s atrocious ingredient list!

  1. Butterfinger

One original Butterfinger bar contains 29 grams of sugar, and while its manufacturer, Nestle, plans to remove artificial colors and flavors from their chocolate candy products by the end of 2015.

Despite this, Butterfinger still contains the preservative TBHQ (tertiary butylhydroquinone), which is also used in fragrances and varnish and was described by Michael Pollan (author of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma”) as a form of butane (aka lighter fluid).

  1. Twizzlers

High in sugar (19 grams for four twists) and controversial ingredients, Twizzlers earned an “F” ranking from FoodFacts.com. In addition to corn syrup and sugar (the first and third ingredients, respectively), Twizzlers also contain partially hydrogenated oil (i.e. trans fats), artificial flavors and colors, salt and preservatives …

  1. 3 Musketeers

Although these are marketed as a lower fat candy than other chocolate bars, don’t be fooled. One bar contains 36 grams of sugar and hydrogenated palm kernel oil, which means these “lower-fat” candies contain some of the worst fat of all – synthetic trans fats.

  1. Take 5 Bars

Hershey’s Take 5 candy bars’ lengthy list of ingredients includes sugar high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (trans fat), artificial flavor, TBHQ, caramel color and more.

Hershey’s, like Nestle, has plans to remove artificial flavors and colors and high fructose corn syrup from their chocolate products, although a definitive timeline hasn’t been given.

  1. Dots

Dots gumdrops are made of corn syrup, sugar, artificial flavor and artificial colors, including FD&C Red 40, Yellow 5 and Blue 1. Each Dot contains about 2 grams of sugar, which means even a small handful will send you over your daily recommended limit.

  1. M&Ms

Made of artificially flavored milk chocolate, sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup and artificial colors (nine different varieties), M&Ms are a high sugar, genetically modified (sugar and corn ingredients are often full of GMOs) “treat.”

Are There Healthy Candy Alternatives?

A piece of whole fruit can satisfy your sweet tooth while providing your body with valuable vitamins, minerals and fiber. It can also satisfy your hunger pains … but if only candy will do, try these healthier alternatives:

Dark chocolate: Cocoa beans contain potent antioxidants that are quite good for your heart. One study even found that those who ate the most chocolate had a 37% reduction in heart disease and a 29% reduction in stroke compared to those who ate the lowest levels.

As a general rule, the darker (and bitter it gets) the chocolate, the healthier it is.

Dark chocolate-covered fruit: Dark chocolate raisins, cherries or blueberries combine the antioxidant power of dark chocolate with that of berries – a particularly healthy combination. Just be sure you don’t overdo it (dried fruit is high in sugar).

KIND bars: KIND bars are low in sugar and high in protein and fiber. Plus, they contain only ingredients you can pronounce. Many other protein and granola bars on the market contain as much sugar as a candy bar, so be sure to read the labels before assuming it’s a ‘healthier’ choice.

Shredded coconut: Rich in healthy fats, coconut is naturally sweet and satisfying. Be sure to look for unsweetened varieties. If you like, you can use it to make your own healthy trail mix by combining unsweetened coconut with nuts and dark chocolate chips.

For the sake of good health, candies and any food items that are sugar-laden should be consumed in very moderate amount, because these are high acid forming foods.

A healthy body is the result of healthy blood. Blood contains the nutrients needed to provide the entire body with the specific fuel it requires for maximum health and athletic/non-athletic performance, like a well-oiled machine.

Blood must maintain a pH of approximately 7.4 for optimum human health and performance.  This means that the blood must maintain a slightly alkaline blood pH, since 7.0 is considered neutral. Normal, arterial blood readings are 7.4, but can vacillate between 7.37 and 7.43.

Blood levels that go below 7.37, or above 7.43, will cause the body to produce inferior and unhealthy body tissue. Your health and athletic performance will be sluggish, your power, strength and endurance will be greatly reduced, and it will be the cause of many sport injuries that could have been avoided.

You may ask, “How are these blood levels related to diet?” The food you eat will either be alkaline-forming or acid-forming.

If you have an acid-forming diet, your body will be in a chronic state of high acidity.
